Are you going to ask me to hold the money and go to the bank to give you half the amount as "good faith"?

Just kidding.

Keep it.

How much is a small wad? Maybe you could leave a number with the security there, for the loser (of the money) to call you to identify the amount. If no one calls, I would make some forgotten kids very happy.

It was mine... I can identify it... it was green, and had pictures of dead presidents on them.

leave contact info with authorities at train station. don't post it to public. if someone contacts them with amount and location, proceed from there. if not, yoru church will put it to good use. good luck.

The Bradys went the ad route, while the Cleavers turned the money over to the police. In each case, the rightful owners were able to reclaim their money, much to the chagrin of both sets of children.

I hope this helps. ;)

You turn it in a the nearest police station. If no one claims it in 30 days, it's yours. The person who lost the money will have to go to the station, ask for it, identify where it was lost, and how much cash it was.

If it is more than $200, I believe that most places require you to report it to the police. After about 10 days the money is yours if no one claims it.

However! The way things are these days, is it just as likely that the police will claim that it is "drug money" and just keep it and tell you to get bent.

Walk by a Salvation Army kettle and drop it in.

Maybe you could report it to the police who can let you know if anyone shows up indicating that they lost that amount in the hopes that someone will be honest. I sure wouldn't advertise. You will be inundated.

Dont advertise. Take it to the transit police and let them deal with it. Chances are somebody already came and asked for any missing money.

Most states require that you notify the police if the ammount found exceeds a certain sum (in PA $10.00)/ If it is unclaimed after a period of time, you get to keep it.

Just for kicks, I would send an email to people in Nigeria asking them to let you use their bank account to hold the money "temporarily" and then offer them a dollar for their kindess (a dollar goes far in Nigeria!)

Seriously though, if it's a small amount of money, I wouldn't bother putting up fliers. The person who lost it probably didn't even notice it was gone. I would just give the money to your church or a salvation army kettle. If it was a large amount of money, I'd put up a notice.

after documenting your find (and probably consuliting with an attorney) you should formally turn it in to police. The law in NY says that if it is not claimed in xx days (I forget how many) by someone who can demonstrate ownership then you get to keep it (or give it to your church).

On the off chance that it is from some ill gotten enterprise and you elect to post the notice you mention NEVER put your number on such a notice. Folks can track that back.

Lots of folks.

Including any nominal "bad guys" whose wad of cash it might be.

Or any other "bad guys" who want that wad of cash, theirs or not.

If it is a significant amount, do the flyer.
If not, keep it and buy your wife a gift.
It's kind-of like donating it to the church.

If you have a PO Box, put up a sign saying "write and tell me how much you lost and where."

Maybe you could check with the police at the nearest station to get their advice how to handle it.

If you'd like to donate it to a worthy cause, I suggest Sean Hannity's fund to provide college scholarships to the children of troops killed in Iraq and/or Afghanistan.

Merry Christmas, and God Bless.
