"After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways," the couple said in a statement Wednesday. "This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."

Pics of Jessica please!!!
I've heard stories like your's before...tolerate abuse or pilandering just cause you should.
seen it in my own extended family
The timing of this seems a trifle suspicious. I've heard of Miss Simpson, but not the other fellow - perhaps they're trying to generate some publicity?

There is a clause in the Bible about adultery, but I'm not sure about abuse. God does command us to treat the other spouse with respect. I can't remember the exact wording.
My aunt is also very devout, but agreed with my decision to divorce. She lives back east and didn't know my situation until a few years ago.
I agree, not surprising but a shame nonetheless. I think it's been a long time coming. Jessica comes across on the Newlywed show as childish and immature, playing a role for the tv as 'wife', in contrast to role as wife for the long term. I hope it wasn't like that. Nick always struck me as wanting to be married, not on display like a mannequin. It's too bad that one or both of them haven't realized that 'God hates divorce'. You bring up good points. And in Jessica's case, part of the problem seems to be the marketing of her by her (supposedly) preacher father.
TheSpottedOwlWrote: "No one should put up with abuse or adultery, and that's just common sense. God also hates people who mock Him and break vows and commandments."
You make an excellent point. Christ allowed for divorce in cases of adultery. Why? When one spouse mocks God, what can the other spouse do? Abuse is similar. Clearly it violates everything God planned for marriage. That's why it's so important for Christians to marry Christians.
In the case of Nick and Jessica, I thought she was a Christian. Was Nick a believer, too? If not, Jessica violated biblical guidance to marry him.
I'd like to apply for a grant to test this hypothesis.
I guess pimping out his daughers was a wee bit more lucrative.
Someone mentioned that Jessica's dad is a minister. I think the pressure cooker existence finished off their marriage. I hope the tabloids are happy with the new notch in their belts.
I didn't marry a believer. He led me to think otherwise before our marriage.
Nick Lachey is a former man-bander and he was on the college football gameday show on ESPN a couple times this year.
If you've seen their show before, Nick spent a lot of time in strip bars and the Playboy Mansion.
I ask you, if you had Jessica Simpson at home, why would you want to frequent strip bars?
Unless, of course, you were a total idiot.
Which seems to fit Nick...by the way.
I just wish we didn't have to hear about either of them (and Jessica's no-talent sister) anymore.
yeah....
My guess is that there is some adultery going on.
I mean come on, Nick is a former man-bander. He can't possibly be tied down can he?

Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
"Why are our churches silent on this and so many other moral issues?"
Because they are afraid if they criticised divorce they would lose members and the money they contribute to their churches.
Money is the god they worship and they will do anything to serve their god.
Who cares!
Those are some good examples of the few solid marriages in Hollywood. I'm hoping that Reese Witherspoon and her husband Ryan Phillippe stay the course.
This is why the Catholic Church has been playing footloose and fancy-free with annulments these days (IMHO the indulgences of the 21st/22nd centuries). My uncle of 25+ years left my aunt for another woman, then got his marriage annuled on the grounds that my aunt never converted to Catholicism. For the Catholic Church to grant an annulment on those grounds is truly an abomination, no matter that it is trying to allow people to continue to receive communion ("what you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and what you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.").
