This is part of the Egyptian peace offensive, which also includes the new Tut exhibition.

The nimrod who regurgitated the press release from the Egyptians badmouthed the US (via Hollywood, which is anti-US anyway), then claimed that "like the earliest travelers" to Egypt, visitors would see Queen Nefertiti in her palace. The site of Akhetaten, a short-lived capital of Egypt, was originally identified in 1824 as a Roman site. The famous bust of Nefertiti wasn't discovered until 1912.
