Ive just received a credible tip from an LGF reader that an America West flight out of New York was fired upon by a surface to air missile yesterday, and that the pilot and passengers witnessed it and are now being questioned by the FAA and FBI.
Thats the extent of the information I currently have, and please note: right now this is completely unverified.
Can you send me a url Southhack to look that up?
I would appreciate that.
Thank you.
Do you see a good url here for a reporting forum that you like?
I'll check also.

Not as good as FR IMHO.
Methinks what the passengers saw was a meteor on the last throes of breaking up in the atmosphere.
That would have strong validity if they had found explosives residue from the remains of the plane. But since the wreckage didn't turn up any explosives residue, we can rule out terrorism.
August and September do have a lot going on when it comes to meteors.
Islamic terrorists or leftists? They are both on the same side.

This is the Airport Monitor radar for JFK...didn't see anything on America West 17 on September 15 at 6:05.
Anyone else see something I'm missing?
If it really was a MANPAD, it might have been a old Soviet Strela. They have a nasty habit of going anywhere *but* in the direction of the target - assuimg it doesn't detonate on launch or at some random point in flight (usually close to the launcher, ruining the operator's day). There are literally millions of Strelas running around the world arms markets. They're more dangerous to the operator than to an aircraft, but they're cheap and the operator might get lucky. Me, I'd stick to throwing rocks at a landing or launching plane, it's more reliable and more effective. :-P
Of course, what they probably saw in all reality was some kid setting off a big firework or something equally stupid and innocuous.
Maybe it froze on me.
I didn't see a change
after changing the time and date and hitting start.
It's a java applet and they tend to do that from time-to-time. My attempt to view the thing never even loaded, just a gray box.
Thanks softwarecreater.
Well, I've spent several hours on this and will post
updates if I see them.
FYI.
Back to TM.
Software Creator is right.
It froze on me also. Took a little while to load.
Don't hit the start button on the left...try the pause, restart and start button on the right after you set time and date.
It's a little tempermental,
Thanks Cindy.
