It had to happen eventually. Cat Stevens now known as Yusuf Islam has been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
My sources tell me he's a shoo-in, too.
Stevens had several huge-selling popular records in the 1970s, until he became a Muslim and changed his name. Those hits were "Moon Shadow," "Peace Train," "Oh Very Young," a cover version of Sam Cooke's "Another Saturday Night," "Father and Son" and "Wild World."
A decade or more ago, Stevens was roundly denounced for seeming to back the fatwa, or death sentence, placed by Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini on the head of writer Salman Rushdie for his novel "The Satanic Verses."
Last year he was refused entry into the United States on suspicion ridiculous as it was that he was a terrorist of some sort.

You forgot wierd Al Yankovich.
They left out "Morning Has Broken."
Forgot nothing, he belongs there ;-)
yeah, what are these guys all about? man, it's tough to just get past the name .....(((((shudder)))))
paaaaaaaalllleeeeesssseeeee!!!!!!
What's even funnier is that all of them are actually married...to women.
Everytime we sing Morning Has Broken in church I think of Cat Stevens. Funny how things turn out.
He wrote and performed gentle music in a turbulant time. Based on his popularity and compared to some others in the Hall of Fame, I would think his invitation is appropriate.
His religious conversion is a personal issue, like Cassius Clay/Mohammed Ali.
Ali was quick to distance himself and his beliefs from the radical, violent extremists. Didn't he make an appearance on the Concert for Heros after 9/11? Did Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam make any kind of statement? Is there anything other than the fact that he is a (converted) Moslem that would support those who think he is in league with the fundamental, violent, extremists?
To get in the rock hall of shame. You dont have to play rock and roll or have any talent or brains. Thats why Bon Jovie is in and Lynyrd Skynrd isnt!!
This would mean it is actually a Pop Music Hall of Fame, which opens the door for such giants as Gerry and the Pacemakers or the Partridge Family session musicians, both of which crafted music every bit as "good" as anything Yusuf Islam did before he became a terrorist enabler.
I must have one of his records!
Let me put it on my "To-Do List" just after "mash nuts flat with a sledgehammer."
Besides his hits, which haven't aged very well but are nevertheless better than much of the crap out there today, he wrote two songs that will last forever: Boy with the Moon and Star on His Head and The Wind
I listen to the Wind
To the wind of my soul
Where I'll end up
Well I think only God really knows
I've sat upon the setting sun
But never never never
I never wanted water once
No never never never
I listen to my words but they fall far below
I let my music take me where my heart wants to go
I danced upon the devil's lake
But never never never
I'll never make the same mistake
No never never never
Just more proof that the R&R Hall of Fame is little more than a rogue's gallery. I mean, they had to include a radical Islamist in there somewhere or their collection wouldn't be complete.
If he is indeed a serious Muslim he will denounce this western award and refuse to accept it.
Natalie Merchant recorded a version of "Peace Train" that sounds like she's saying "Pee Stain." Hehehehe...
I don't like this creep but he sure had great music and I loved his music in Harold and Maude
For what? Tea for the Tillerman???
Hey when did Bob Dylan get in ?
I liked his music the best.
And I give them credit: their show, unlike most others, is just basic early childhood development stuff, without a huge helping of political correctness (they manage to squeak just a touch of it in, but not much).
" They should induct him into the hall along with Blodwyn Pig "
Hey - that was a pretty good album as I recall ! Blows away Cat Stevens that's for sure ,
