It had to happen eventually. Cat Stevens — now known as Yusuf Islam — has been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
My sources tell me he's a shoo-in, too.
Stevens had several huge-selling popular records in the 1970s, until he became a Muslim and changed his name. Those hits were "Moon Shadow," "Peace Train," "Oh Very Young," a cover version of Sam Cooke's "Another Saturday Night," "Father and Son" and "Wild World."
A decade or more ago, Stevens was roundly denounced for seeming to back the fatwa, or death sentence, placed by Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini on the head of writer Salman Rushdie for his novel "The Satanic Verses."
Last year he was refused entry into the United States on suspicion — ridiculous as it was — that he was a terrorist of some sort.

And am I correct that Lynyrd Syknyrd is still not there? Any so-called Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that doesn't include them, that would even consider Cat Stevens, is a joke.
I used to buy his LPs when I was in high school in the early 70's. Too bad he turned out the way he did. At least Hendrix has a legacy.
If Cat Stevens, does that mean Raffi can get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What about Barney the Dinosour and The Giggles. Yusef is about on the same level.

He also wrote two great tunes made famous by others:"Here Comes My Baby", by the Tremeloes [a great rocker], and "The First Cut is the Deepest", done by both Rod Stewart and Sheryl Crowe.

BTW, I am old enough to remeber all of the 70's (but young enough to remeber it clearly, without the coke, pot, and LSD-induced fog). He really wasn't all that spectacular.

Thank God there was so much great R & B during the 70's so that I didn't have to listen to whiney twerps like Cat Stevens....
They the liberal music groups are just trying to make the government let the a$$wipe in the country to rub it in the governments face, but according to his current religion singing is not allowed, so let him in if he will sing all of those songs he is famous for.
