The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Deaconjim read my post about Lowes, and guess where we are going! We used to go there so often when we were building our house, that we should have had our own coffee cups! LOL They all knew us by name. : )
We are trying to get some stuff finished on the house at long last.....catch up with you later! : )

This is a whole lot like what we were going to build in Mart, except it will be a garage instead of an arena.

One of the things I did this summer was to go through the shelves and put reading list stickers on all the books that are on the high school reading list.

First thought I had was no wonder so many kids don't like to read - the school doesn't assign any really good books :)

Well, some of them are, but the majority are books I wouldn't read unless forced to.

You getting any rain?

Yeahbuddy! Got poured on yesterday afternoon and last night but it's supposed to clear up by this afternoon. I went riding yesterday morning about an hours drive from here (the place with the covered bridge) and they were giving about a 30% chance of rain when I left but it changed to about 70% later on. We've been getting some really nice stiff breezes off of Rita for the last couple of days so the ride was great. I didn't get rained on until I was pulling the trailer through the gate back at the barn.

I took a vacation day on Friday and had a really good horse-filled weekend. On Friday I got a haircut, which I sorely needed, then went shopping, then went to the Racking Horse World Celebration that night and had a really great time. I met some friends over there so I had somebody to sit with. I took some pretty good pictures, which I'll post later, and quite a bit of video during the Speed class. I'll have to send that to Hair to post if she will coz it's pretty good. On Saturday I hung out at the barn all day by myself and really enjoyed it. I rode 2 horses, bathed 2, trimmed feet on one, then just sat around in the barn enjoying the breeze and watching the horses graze. I really like days like that.

I thought you'd enjoy this one of me and Tennessee taken on Saturday. He's sure gotten fat in his old age but I'm sure you remember him. He hasn't been ridden to speak of in a year and a half, since I've had the younger ones to ride, but he still had the old get-up-and-go when I took him down the road a few miles from the barn. He's barefoot now and his feet are shorter than they've ever been but he was really smooth, riding on the pavement. He seemed to enjoy getting out too. I think it brought back good memories for both of us.

Just to let you know that Ideaconjim just called and has booked me in for having all sugar tests done tommorow 9am eastern. I hate having blood taken, as I have very small rolling veins that they have a hard time working on. I always end up really bruised.
I loathe doctors, just loathe them, and I know he is right that I need to go, but It hasn't left me in the best of moods.

He's 17. I just rode him a couple of miles but he did really well. It was real windy so there things blowing all over and dogs barking but it was great. I'm going to order a pair of Old Mac boots for him and try to get him out for a little exercise a little more regularly now that I've found this little road close by the barn to ride. He's a good ol' boy!

I just got back from riding Harley. Kristy came and went with me. I had an interesting experience. We walked thru some tall weeds/grass, and when we came out of it Harley had sticktites stuck all over his legs and he did NOT like it. It didn't bother Rowdy at all, but Harley was stomping his feet, and he'd bend down to scratch them off with his nose and get them all over his nose then snort and sling his head around....it was kind of funny, but very annoying. They don't hurt just stick. I got off two times and wiped them off after that he was on his own to deal with them. I guess he got use to them because he finally stopped.

LOL! I'll bet they felt really weird to him, especially when they stuck to his nose. It's nice that you got off and helped him out.

I got a bit nervous when the first batch was on him. He was really aggitated, and suddenly turned on the trial like he was planning on taking off back up the trail. Even Kristy thought he was going. I jumped off. It wasn't really till then I knew what was bothering him. I thought it was a fly but could never see it. I wiped them off as best I could then got back on and in a short distance he was stomping again. I didnt get off then till he stood still for me, I don't want him to learn I'm going to bail if he acts that way. I just really didn't know what was going on the first time. I had trouble believing those things were bothering him that much.

I sure am glad you're going to get your sugar seen about. I hate doctors too, but we don't want you getting sick. Diabeties is nothing to fool around with. Letting your sugar get that high does permanent cumulative damage. You gotta get it under control even if it means going on insulin. I'm sure Deaconjim is scared to death for you after what happened to his first wife. Both of you hang in there and we'll pray for you!

i wondered if it was a good thing for me to get off and wipe them off. It seemed he'd get them back on as soon as I wiped them off. After the second time I thought I can't be doing this, he's going to have to get use to them. If they had bothered Rowdy as bad I might have continued to wipe them off, but Rowdy never even twitched because of them. That's why I finally quite wiping them off. Some things you just have to let them deal with,,,right??:)
