'Cooter' Urges Fans to Skip 'Dukes' Movie

ATLANTA -- If television's "Crazy Cooter" has his way, fans of the "Dukes of Hazzard" may be speeding away from a new movie version of the cornpone classic faster than the Duke boys running from Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane.

Ben Jones, a former Georgia congressman who played the wisecracking mechanic on the popular series from 1979-85, said profanity and sexual content in the film make a mockery of the family friendly show.

"Basically, they trashed our show," said Jones, who now lives in the mountains of Washington, Va. "It's one thing to do whatever movie they want to do, but to take a classic family show and do that is like taking "I Love Lucy" and making her a crackhead or something."

Jones says it has too much profanity and sexual content.

I don't plan on seeing it. I'll get the bootleg.

I won't be seeing it either, even though I'm a big Dukes fan. I'll spend my money on the DVDs from the first couple of seasons.

Yes. I rather spend the money on box sets or go to the library and beg them to carry it.

I don't have anything against sexual content... but look who they got - Johnny Knoxville from Jackass and the Pie F***er from American Pie... you couldn't pay me to see this movie.

They usually do that. It's so they have a second cut for TV syndication.

And I thought Jessica Simpson was the only reason to go. In my expert opinion her "Boots are made for Walking" video is like "The Godfather" of music videos.

Cooter's got a point. The television show was wholesome and more family oriented. Plus the characters have that adultness to them. Looking at Johnny Knoxville and that other guy, they look like a couple of teens.

Well, then, maybe I shouldn't kiss my dreams of one day being funny goodbye.

I had a small part in the made-for-tv Dukes of Hazard movie a year or two ago. I got to work with one of the original cast members and did a funny bit with him.

Some of the most fun I've ever had. Great people. I'd like to say I was a little disappointed that the movie did not bring back some of that cast. They took the name of the show for this movie- and not much else.

Sure, like the TV series didn't play up Catherine Bach's good looks:
