The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

But it wouldn't have had nearly this much quality content.

Who are we to judge?

Sigh.

The original ain't that hard. It helps to hear it, rather than just read it. But I'm weird and just love his wording. He invented a great number of words and phrases that we use all the time, you know.

You needed this:

"Actually having the money to own houses in other countries or to fly somewhere whenever just seems...too much to me. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;~D

That woulda covered it.

I do love Shakespeare. Fell in love with him when I was a Senior in high school, but then I loved literature. But for middle or high schoolers who are reading him for the first time, and who may not be very good readers, it helps to kinda know the story in order to make it through the iambic pentameter.

Maybe... my group never had trouble, except the silly girls who wanted to go over every potentially naughty word. Mom kept them in line, though. Her Shakespeare class was the most popular one for high schoolers at our coop.

in order to make it through the iambic pentameter

So is this a good "guns, drugs and orgies" cult, or a boring cult like Corin had?

Shakespeare's full of drugs, at least... potions and poisons and whatnot.

Is anyone here on the thread leading the life they thought they would at 21?

My answer would be yes and no.

I wanted to get married and have children, but I thought I would be a world traveler before then. Turns out I am lucky to make it to New Orleans once in a blue moon. Havent been out of the country since I got married and we went to Cancun Mexico for our honeymoon. Hubby is something of a homebody.

But I agree with the others : if I had taken a different path, I dont even think I would be conservative! I'd just be...CONFUSED!

Still, I wish there were some things I could go back and erase from my past....

I wouldn't erase the mistakes.... Chances are, if I had it to do over again, I'd make 'em again anyway.

LOL - not me...now that I've done *those* I want to go make WHOLE NEW mistakes! LOL

I once heard, on an episode of M*A*S*H of all things! one of the characters say : in the end all you have left to call your own are mistakes and memories, and I thought how true that is.

Sigh.

The only thing worse than sticking around late to move furniture, is having the person you're moving furniture for be late.

Half an hour late, and counting.

Ha ha ha!

Jr. League had a great thrift shop in Austin.

Never knew much about who they were exactly though...

Thanks for the recipe! Have bookmarked it.

I have lately been obsessed with collecting crochet patterns for shrugs and jackets.
