The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I agree...

The Dance is another song I have to stop everything to hear.

And of course, for a little wild side... you can't beat Thunder Rolls...

Heh, here's the translation. It's from a lied by Gustav Mahler that I played in my senior recital.

If you love for beauty,
Oh, do not love me!
Love the sun,
She has golden hair!

If you love for youth,
Oh, do not love me!
Love the spring;
It is young every year!

If you love for treasure,
Oh, do not love me!
Love the mermaid;
She has many clear pearls!

If you love for love,
Oh yes, do love me!
Love me ever,
I'll love you evermore!

Actually having the money to own houses in other countries or to fly somewhere whenever just seems...too much to me.

That's all.

Ah... then these lines make more sense than the google translation!

But ~many~? Who wants more than two? ;~D

Shakespeare would be better if it were translated into English ;~D

You haven't really read Shakespeare until you've read him in the original Klingon.

That and "Calling Baton Rouge" and "Standing Outside the Fire."

I learned to country dance in college and through that learned to love country music. When my good buddy (folks thought we were siblings) found himself ~having~ to get married (hastily) I kind of lost interest.

There were no orgies or drugs involved...at least at my level.

Well, then I definately would have worked up. ;~D

Shrug.

I figure, if you earned it or inherited it honestly, and it's not the focus of your life, there's nothing wrong with being rich.

And I'm joking, naturally. I'd get a kick out of flying around and living in lots of countries, but it's not something I'd need to do. I'll be perfectly happy with the same sort of comfortable life my parents have. (Though they've made several interesting trips in recent years)

For country, I really only know Garth. He was the only thing of value I kept from an old flame.

I don't... keeps my mind off things like Harry Potter or flying home.

You know, for the record, we could've been close to 9,000 by now...

That's all I'm sayin'.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it...and I wouldn't mind some of the benefits. But there are also responsibilities that go along with it, IMO. Plus, like I said, things one has fought for just seem more special than those that come easily.

I'll cut out the philosophizing now...or whatever the right word is.

You know, for the record, we could've been close to 9,000 by now...

But it wouldn't have had nearly this much quality content.

That's all I'm sayin' ;~D

I found two volumes of Shakespeare plays in prose by Leon Garfield. Helps you know what the heck the Bard is saying! ;o)
