The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Gypsygirl has informed us that the coffee is gone, therefore, she would appreciate a walk around the town, she has to keep an eye on things. :-)

I got some way cool flush cut saws for SSQ today in the 'Tokyu Hands' department store. I'd asked him what kind of souvenir he wanted from Japan, and that's what he asked for! These are made very well, and are in the old style, bamboo handle and vey thin flexible double flush cut blades. He's going to be cutting lots of door frames when we install the wood floors, so they'll come in handy.

I used an Emeril recipe. It was a bit too sweet and the juice didn't gel - it just got really watery. So it was a really sweet berry soup. *sigh* I was about to throw in the towel. Fortunately the zucchini bread came out great!

I wish there was a way to strain the seeds out and just use the juicy pulp of the berries for the cobbler. I love the taste!

Just came back from my walk....the squirrels are active, the humans are starting to stir....all quiet at Dr. Z's office.

Those are 'vey' cool saws; a few bowyers use them, though they admit adjusting to 'pull' instead of 'push'. The saws make an excellent cut, very smooth to use without the tear out that usually accompanies the standard 12 point hand saw. I believe they are also shown in the Garret-Wade catalog.

Us too, little stirring in our end of theshire, no strange visitors or dwarves on the eastern roads. Gypsygirl is now content to nap, her 'work' is done.

Here is the zucchini bread recipe. It has a bit too much sugar - I won't add the full amount next time (and there *will* be a next time because I have zucchini coming out my ears). I did add a cup of steamed currants and it was super nice and moist.

Oh and I used butter instead of oil. The only oil oil I keep in the house is olive oil and that's not the best for dessert-type baked goods.

Good morning everyone! winmag, I've gotten at least 5 requests for your address so people could mail checks, and I think others have donated via the paypal.... Can you tell us how much has come in there?

It was a really nice visit, not nearly long enough. Wish we'd had time for a bit more excitement. Doubt she'll be moving out here any time soon, it's too expensive for undergrad out-of-state tuition.

Sigh. I ought to work on reading papers and stuff, but my mood's too bleah...

Hello everyone! Just wanted to let all the bookworms of the group know that the last 24 hours for my e-show with Usborne Books started today. The e-show ends at 11:59 am tomorrow, however, the site itself will remain open for any orders thereafter. Its just on an e-show that one can recieve special offers. I do intend to have another one in the future, probably at the end of August, so this is not entirely a one-shot across the bow manueuver.

HERE

Thanks Suzi.

I feel like I was in a car wreck today. Back is hurting, my left elbow feels stiff.

The good news is that I'm nowhere near as stiff in the legs as I was the last time I rode.

So I figure the big aches and pains I've got this time were as a result of the incident. :-D

It's steamy out there, so I'm going for a dip in the pool.

Mmmm...zucchini bread.

I wonder if they're cheap enough at the grocery to warrant making some of this one of these days? I doubt they could be super expensive. I should research this...

Great pics!

I've been a big procrastinator this weekend, have been looking for *anything* to do besides pack for my business trip tomorrow. Planted the fall garden, shopped for new meeting outfits, got my hair done, picked blackberries, chopped up zucchinis; baked cobbler and zucchini bread, froze blackberries, cleaned, did laundry, exercised. I really dislike going on travel - I miss hubby and home. *whine*
