How about Shaft & the Mod Squad!"Shaft" is an excellent example of a director getting the most "Bang for the Buck!", pissant. No big names. No budget to speak of. Shot on location. What is considered by many to be the first "Anti-Blaxploitation" film made. Which did well enough at the box-office to generate two lesser sequels.
"The Mod Squad" was mediocre episodic television. Though I thought Tige Andrews was great as Captain Greer!
Jack.

"The films of the 1970s were then and are now some of the finest and most diverse vehicles for acting and telling a story well."
And then there were the "documentaries":

Speaking of which, ANYONE REMEMBER JANICE IAN? -------------------------------------------------------- I learned the truth at Seventeen, that love was meant for beauty queens.
BTW: I'll see your Janis Ian and raise you a Maria Muldaur.

Don't like Chick music. A couple of Joni Mitchell tunes are OK, thought it shames me to say so!

"Society's Child" was '67; in the 70's she did a very vapid song called "At Seventeen"

I mean, the Starlite Vocal Band was a choral group. I always wondered if it was one giant afternoon delight, or what the hell? One afternoon the whole group decided to get naked and sloppy, and then stuck around to sing about it? In three-part harmony?
That ain't right.

"...yet there is huge catalog of terrific material untapped by these formulaic morons."
Said about the second generation of oldies (post-Woodstock up to MTV) but just as true of 50s-60s oldies and modern music.

The year I got married at bike week, we went to the Boot Hill Saloon, and it was raining like crazy. We were all out back under the pavilion. There must have been 500 people under there trying to stay semi dry. That song played and everyone was singing it. 500 drunken bikers singing David Allen Coe in the rain was awesome.

The BeeGees were better in their 1960s era. So I hear. I've heard one or two songs, not enough to make me seek it out but good enough that it beats anything they did in the 70s.

I'm trying not to picture you and your dad tooling around in the Riviera, your dad singing along with the tape deck about gettin' laid...
