I had oral surgery early this morning, and I'm still as numb and swollen as I was at 8:00AM (pst)!!! I've been putting ice packs on as directed...is there anything else I can do to stop feeling so bad????

Thanks, and I'll await both the good, as well as funny, repsonses!

Are you kidding? Depending on what you had done, you'll be swollen for days, if not a couple of weeks.
Did you have a wisdom tooth pulled? That's the worst.

put ice or pinch the muscle area between your thumb and index finger.

I don't know what to suggest, but you have my sympathy. I had all four wisdom teeth extracted on the same day, and the recovery period wasn't fun. I really liked the general anesthetic, though.

Normally the dentist provides you with a prescription for pain. Get it filled and use it. The combination of the anesthesia used and the pills will put you to sleep. You should feel fine when you awake.

If you are numb, what's the problem?

Nothin' better than the ice packs for swelling, hon. But are you in pain also? Can you swallow some regular tablets like Advil?

I hear that if you swish some high % alcohol whiskey around in your mouth (you don't have to drink it) that the whiskey will help numb the pain.

...pinch the muscle area between your thumb and index finger.

Would that work for sinus problems also?

Didn't the dentist give you a prescription for some pain meds? If not call him, and have him call the pharmacy. Most pharmacies will deliver if you need.

Drink lots of slushies so you are icing from with in as well as without.

Drop a bowling ball on your foot, you'll forget about your mouth pretty quickly.

Umm, definately DON'T swallow the whiskey if you're on pain medication.

You could also stub your toe repeatedly, until you forget about how much your mouth hurts... :)

Hi HIldy,

I'd boil some tea bags and let them cool just a bit. Then place the bags over the swelling.

I heard it helps!

Call the INS... report several illegal aliens living in your back yard. see which event happens first: the INS showing up to make arrests, or the pain ceasing. Report back.

Oh, and Black Velvet to help time pass, as previously noted.

Call DNC headquarters. Ask to give a speech in Dean's honor. Yel;l a bunch of wild, accusations, then coclude speech by punching self in afflicted area and screaming in pain. "Yeeeaaaahrg!"
