I am a US citizen & my British husband is a lawful, DOCUMENTED, permanent resident (he has to wait another 17 months before he can become a citizen). We want to buy a handgun, for personal safety in our home. Does anyone know; would the fact that he is not yet a citizen effect us getting a gun?
I have a CRAZY relative (brother), who has sworn to kill me (he attacked me at Christmas, breaking 2 of my fingers, giving me a fat lip & black eye - yet, believe it or not, when Police arrived, I WAS ARRESTED, apparently because I was crying & upset - he DEMANDED the DA take me to trail, but thank God a jury of my peers saw the injustice & aquitted me of all charges).
He was really pissed that I was aquitted & has now (5 months later) gone so far as to say, to a friend, that he could get to me, in my home, 1 late night & strangle me to death, long before the police could arrive to help me (we live in the country & my husband works nights every 2 months - which he knows).
The Judge that presided over my case, was outraged that the DA further victimised me & that I was the real VICTIM. She also knew that [he] is a very serious risk to me, so she asked me after the verdict was read, if I wanted her to issue a restraining order to protect myself, which of course I did/do (this I am told is VERY unusual for a presiding Judge to ask me if I wanted RO) - but I know that this piece of paper will not stop him from killing me, if & when he should decide to.
[His] recent comments (2 weeks ago) about breaking in to my house & strangling me, has now convinced me that I MUST take some steps to protect myself & my family (I have a 1 yr old, 3 yr old & 5 yr old), but I know nothing of guns & I have no idea where to go to find out. I want to be able to trust the sources in which I get the informtion, because I am such a novice.
I love & trust this website & forum, so I thought that my fellow Republicans could help me. I am really scared. He is HUGE (outwieghs me by 250 pounds), he was in the Marines for 2 years in the 80's (although he was asked to leave, or be thrown out for pulling a gun on a Master SGT).
I have ordered pepper spray (for BEAR, because he is the size of a bear) to use for protection, until I am able to get some information about buying a gun and make a purchase.
I live in Washington State - PLEASE HELP ME, I don't know where else to turn.
Thanks, night D.
On a typical zot thread? That most of us are about 14 years old.
I think a casual observer would be able to determine in short order what was going on.
Furthermore, the casual observer who also was familiar with liberal sites such as DU or SmirkingChimp would recognize the absence of profantity by Freepers as oppossed to the streams of profane vitriol spewing from DU and SmirkingChimp.
Good night J J.
Say I have a problem, and nobody in my circle of friends can fathom its seriousness. Say I have a problem, and I'm too embarassed to discuss it with my family. Say I have a problem, and everyone I know is at a loss for how to handle it. Say I have a problem, and I don't trust my family and friends to give sound advice.
It's not totally beyond the realm of understanding to seek advice from strangers. Why do you think people write to "Dear Abby"?
Olly Olly Oxen Free, Come out from where ever you are!
Thank you. :-)
I am beginning to agree with you- you seem to have a better BS detector than me. But, then, females always do!
Are we discussing guns yet? Come wake me up when we do... ;-)
Our black manx kicks rat terrior butt when he feels like it, you can tell by the yelps.
I guess your realm of understanding and mine are not the same, but then I can't imagine something that I would want advice on that I wouldn't discuss with my friends, or my pastor, or my family or with a counselor. I'd certainly not go to Dear Abby. To me, THAT would be unfathomable and embarrassing.
Not to mention that the 'oft repeated' advice on this thread, to ask a corner cop, is risky at best, unless you know the cop. I like cops, but the truth is more than half of them are very nervous about private ownership of guns, and will talk someone out of it before they'd ever encourage it, no matter what the law is.
The training is just as important as the gun itself.
Their wish will be granted by still ANOTHER troll just itching to stoke the fire. I've seen it countless times and am sure I'll see it many, many more. If nothing else, a failure to reply for so long should prove the truth of my statement.
When a troll answers and joins into the convo here, their truthfulness shows within several posts. Trust me, it's been that way even when I was a long time lurker and hadn't joined yet.
