The CBS reality show "The Amazing Race" concluded another contest last night. In an amazing display of p.c. B.S., it jumped the shark, in doing so. In the final leg of the race, the first place team, a white couple, was smart enough to beg their way on to a flight that was 1 hour and 15 minutes ahead of the flight the second place team, a black couple, appeared to have been trapped on to. In an amazing display of See-B.S. bull shiite, the black couple was actually able to get American Airlines to "ask" the captain of the early flight to let them on. This was AFTER ALL doors were closed and the flight was seconds from taking off. This would have been the 'game-set-match'of the show. Nevertheless, affirmative action in reality shows popped up to save the day! Even though Airplane captains don't decide "Oh sure, I'll hold my flight up.You seem like nice folks", this one did. If See-B.S. did not have their cameras there it would have been over. Does anyone older than 8 years old think this was on the level? The white couple was from "Survivor", they went along and the black couple who had been idiots for most of the race won. "Stop the flight. We want to get on!" - my foot! In this post 9-11 world things like that only happen in p.c. dreams.
Perhaps the dumbest thread of the year. Uchenna was the nicest guy on the show, often going out of his way to help others. They showed class and great sportsmanship, in contrast to the Rob from Boston who routinely lied and played dirty, the "anything to win, as long as I don't get caught" attitude.
Are you the Amazing Racist?
"cuz" --
Are you a fellow poster over at the "Sucks" Board?
Nope! Just a lurker. Of course I guess I should credit the "Sucks" poster that I borrowed from. But then again, he/she didn't credit the person that he/she borrowed from, so I guess that makes everything even.
Nah, I wouldn't - you made great points with it! Considering the decidedly Blue State mentality over there (and at Television Without Pity as well), I have to say it's nice to see a fellow "Red Stater" lurks as well. I post there as Cal Saints Fan (just couldn't think up anything else).
If you ever do post over there, let me know!
Are you a fan of Survivor and Apprentice as well? Or just TAR?
Of the last three Chip and Kim were by far the most likeable
Re Chip and Kim
I soooo wanted them to win TAR5! They were so gracious everywhere they went, as opposed to the Pizza Brothers (remember them? Calling the citizens of Uruguay "Foreigners" - I was mortified and all I was doing was sitting in my living room - I wanted to get on the phone and apologize to South America).
Are you a fan of Survivor and Apprentice as well? Or just TAR?
THAWAK! Right through the heart! Im wounded! Wounded, I tell ya!
Have ya not visited my profile page? Do ya not realize yer talking to the Keeper of the Survivor Ping List?
Try taking a gander at this thread http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1323005/posts
And BTW, the wife limits me to Survivor and TAR! If I get hooked on another reality show, she has threatened to divorce me! LOL
It was obvious at the end of the day which team had higher moral bearings. To risk the entire race to pay a cab fare by begging says it all. I guarantee you, team Romber would have screwed the cabbie and head for the finish line without batting an eye if in the same situation.
I thought U&J were just being nice to the cabbie too, but my husband pointed out that it must be a rule of the game that you are not allowed to stiff people or steal things to win. In some cases, the cabbies have said it's OK if you don't have enough, but in this case he made a fuss. That is why U&J begged for the money, otherwise they would have been disqualified. Otherwise they would have just ran to the finish line and promised the guy to write him a check for three times the amount after they won.
I thought U&J getting on the plane was suspicious. I would not be surprised if the producers were involved, but was it really better for them for U&J to win? It seems like they would get even more publicity if Romber won. U&J will just be a publicity blip, Romber would be a storm.
Again let's not lionize U&J. I am sure their paying of the cabby was a requirement of the race, not some kind of selfless act. Is everyone here as nice as pie when they play Monopoly? "Oh that's OK, you don't have to pay me rent for the Boardwalk hotel." Do you give your fellow players all the information they want or need when you play poker? I have no problem with how Romber played the game. I actually hated Rob when he was first on Survivor. Eventually I realized "It's a game."
So you're also competing to be the Amazing Racist?
Pure speculation on your part. The reason team Juchenna didn't stiff the cabbie is that they could have been charged with theft of services, and possibly have been in violation of TAR rules.
Yes. They're nice. But that's totally irrelevant to winning or losing the race. Who are we, the distant bystanders, to say who "deserves" to win?
Interesting. I did not record the show last night, so I cannot look again, but it seemed to me that the plane had already begun to taxi away from the gate and then backed up. Is that possible? Was I just seeing things?
If I may weigh in here: Not sure about wether the plane had started to back away from the gate or not, but definitely sure that the door to the aircraft had been closed and the jetway retracted.
Maybe. But it could have played either way, with better press for Romber had they won.
Over the last few weeks, I've noticed that entertainment writers, fed by the show's PR people who already knew who won, were ALL writing negative things about Romber. (Earlier it was 50-50) That translated into more viewers, but also set up expectations for U&J, the "nice" people, to win and for the "rotten" people to lose.
I was a huge Romber fan, and noted the negative turn with great dismay. It seemed predictive. Boo hiss once again to the media for dumping on talented, bright, great-looking Romber and to the TAR editors who showed them in the worst possible light. If anyone believes that they were the only team badmouthing the competition, I have a nice bridge for sale. Truth is, the other teams hated them from the start of the race because they didn't "deserve" to be in the race.
Amber would have shaved her head for sure. She's as game as they come. Kelly might have found it too much to ask.
Good point! I hadn't really thought about it from that perspective because I like Rob and Amber. Funny how once again the competetive, strong players are hated, while the "nice" pc underdogs are lionized. Kind of like America in general. Romber represents the capitalist ideal.
