Interesting FR thread on Friday. A longtime member asked what is the obsession with cats on FR. I have no idea.

$25 is good money when you consider the hourly wage for trying to catch a bird when you can't fly.

I want on the Kitty Ping list alert.

Too bad I didn't get a good picture of the deer giving Tiger a licking bath.

If I can find a half decent one, I'll try to post it next time. Can't get another picture since Tiger got eaten.

:-(

And the deer don't like to lick the other cats.

I live out in bear/cougar/owl/hawk/coyote country. Cats are the sons and daughters of feral cats; I try to catch as many as possible to have them "neutralized". I love and feed them, but know that eventually some will enter the food chain.

Tiger was especially nice.

I wish I could have a cat, but my wife is allergic to them. Winter of 2003 I took in a large orange stray male that was crying at our sliding glass door. We live near a big field and forest and some idiots apparently think that they can drop off unwanted cats to "fend for themselves." But, this guy was skinny and really hungry.

I made a bed in a box wrapped with a space blanket and fed him on the deck. Then when it got really cold I brought him in the house. He was about nine pounds, mostly orange with white-tipped back feet. So I named him Achilles. He was very affectionate and it was clear that he needed a human to take care of him. I'd pat my lap and say "come on Achilles," and he would jump on my lap and I'd pet his stomach and he loved that.

My wife was out of town. When she returned she liked the cat and we thought maybe if we kept out side it would be OK. But, it was so cold, we really needed him inside.

Then Saturday that week my wife's allergy really bothered her so we decided that we'd have to find a home for Achilles. A couple hours later my wife's violin teacher came to our home to give her a lesson. Afterward, we had lunch and I pointed to the cat on the deck and said, "Do you want a cat?"

The music teacher says, "Yes, I do want a cat." That was a surprise. The first person we asked right after we decided that we needed to find a new home. It seems that the teacher was looking for a large cat for his three year old boy and had been to shelters in search of one.

We gave Achilles to him and he took him home to live happily with a new family with a large yard and is now doing well. They named him Sam, after the Cat in the Hat story.

My little neighbor cat has been visiting again, so I'm back to putting food on the porch ... can hear him yowling outside right now.

but I just use Grape Nuts cereal for the 'litter' and unwrapped Almond Roca.

Almond Roca.

=8-0

I had a piece for the first time a few months ago. Cost me several hundred bucks in dental bills.

We love cats because.....

they're so cute as kittens.....

.....and they're pretty comical as adults?

Works for me! LOL!

My five motherless kittens are thriving..I like the 6 hour feeding interval... better than the 2 or 3 by far..but the plumbing needs keep us busy..They are feisty and strong and cute...They are now in a playpen as their climbing out of the box got treacherous.

I have to go to bed..next feeding in 5 hours, sigh! My adopted stray is trapped in my room..she is intent on getting in the playpen..She let me hold and pet her a long time tonight(rare)..Jealousy..LOL!

WOOHOO! So glad to hear the kittens are thriving! Good going!

It's definitely a lot of work raising 5 lil ones but it's such a rewarding experience. They'll be wonderful pets for all the TLC they've received, too.

Nothing like a little jealousy to bring a shy cat out of it's shell. LOL!
