Oh, so The Polynesian's discovered America, not Columbus?
I still say the vikings entered North America first. They came in through the Hudson Straight, into Hudsons Bay, down the Nelson, and down the Red river all the way to Mississippi.
They were our first "Indians". They adapted to the land, learned how to make tee-pee's and build canoes. Then they bred with the Mongoles who came in across through Russia followed the coast and moved east. THEN a few centuries later, Columbus came and discovered them. :o)
The Vikings found the "Indians" already here, referred to them as "skraelings". But check out Hjalmar Holand's book on the Kensington Runestone, if you haven't already.
The more we learn about ancient civilizations, the more we realize that there were probably many more contacts between different peoples than have been generally accepted as "facts"
I think an analysis of the posts on FR which have been distributed by Sunken Civ. over the past few months will bear this out. [ref: cocaine mummies; chinese voyages; viking maps; red-haired mummies in China, etc.]
I like my story better, It makes more people upset.
Just wait 10,000 years from now. After the earth recovers from the next ice age, the remaining civilization, who will have forgotten all history, will -re- discover America, and find a whole mix mash of different ethnic skulls. They'll never figure out Multi-culturalism.

Klar, lecturer, Celtic Studies Program at the University of California, Berkeley, speaking on "Linguistic and Archaeological Evidence for Prehistoric Polynesian Contact with Southern California." The collaboration of Jones and Klar sheds light on a puzzle: did Polynesians before Columbus sail to southern California? Jones received his doctorate in 1995 from the University of California, Davis. He is the co-author of "Prehistoric California: Archaeology and the Myth of Paradise."

Jones is an acknowledged authority on California prehistory and adaptations to coastal, estuary and marine settings. Klar's undergraduate and graduate degrees in linguistics are from the University of California, Berkeley. She was awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship from 1971 through 1974. After a Smithsonian Institution Postdoctoral Fellowship, she returned to Berkeley in 1978. Klar has taught in the departments of linguistics and comparative literature before her most recent appointment in 1989 to the Celtic Studies Program. In 2000, she was honored as a Berkeley Language Center Fellow. Klar teaches Welsh, Welsh poetry, and has dealt extensively with native California languages including Chumash, which is central to hers and Jones' argument about Polynesian seafarers. Among Klar's current projects is a full-scale intellectual biography of American linguist and ethnologist John P. Harrington.

Was Columbus ever in California?
I am not surprised if the first Americans were Polynesians and Ainus, who probably came around 50,000 years ago. I suspect Ainus and Polynesians are the same people, among them Veddas, Australian Aborgines, and Bataks. Some South American Indian languages are similar to Polynesian languages like Quechua.
He's still there. ;)
I believe I've read that genetics proves some relationship between between the Polynesians and some Native American groups
Everybody knows Columbus is in Ohio.
