All of us conservatives know the mainstream media is anti-conservative, anti-Republican and anti-Bush. They ridicule and oppose the pro-life movement. They make fun of Catholicism and Evangelicalism (and Mormonism and any Christian conservative denomination).
Why then are they giving the Terri Schiavo situation this extensive coverage? One cannot watch the news on any TV channel or read any newspaper without the Terri Schiavo case as one of the leading stories.
We've learned several things over the past few weeks:
1. President Bush's approval ratings have PLUMMETED since he got involved.
2. Anywhere from 2/3 to 4/5th of those surveyed believe the GOP-led congress and President Bush SHOULDN'T have poked their collective noses into the case.
3. Many of those who want Terri's feeding tube reinserted have vowed to punish the Republicans for not doing enough.
What these mean is there's a direct negative causal effect against President Bush and the Republicans.
This is why the MSM is covering the Terri Schiavo case - they know it's a 'lose-lose' situation for President Bush and the GOP. The longer they play it; the more damage is done to the Republicans.
The leftists and liberal Democrats couldn't be happier. This single case has turned their fortunes around and instead of losing more congressional seats in 2006; they now stand to gain a significant amount - perhaps even retake control over congress.
Why? Because the GOP will lose support from moderates and independents for their 'interference' and will also lose support from those who will want to punish them for not doing enough to keep Terri alive.
So, way to go Republicans! You've now given the Democrats control over the US just because you let your emotions be manipulated without thinking of the consequences.
the msm is all teri al the time because it wants the public to stop realizing the transformation taking place.
Bush's rising orange tide of freedom is going to set more people free than reagan.
Just another worthless vanity. Good work.
I feel like Rip Van Winkle! Have I been asleep this long? Is it really October 2006?
Oh... It's still March 2005?
Get real. This is a big issue now, and it will have some short-term consequences, but I hardly think it's going to have the political impact you describe a year and a half from now.
(I'm not addressing the real, personal and moral issues here. Just the political angle.)
Oh my,the msm have a poll that reflects negatively on President Bush and Republicans.I just can`t believe that, its incomprehensible that they would try to put Republicans in an unflattering light.
Who gives a s##t what their polls say. They kept telling us that Clinton had done no wrong either.
Considering that Free Republic was "All Terri, all the time" well before the MSM went that way I don't think we can point fingers at MSM bias for not protecting us from outselves. Its another example of the internet/blog culture shaping the MSM news.
"Should I help save a woman's life or buy a dog named Buddy?"
LOL! Thanks. I needed that. Anything that reminds me that the Klintoons could still be in power always sobers me up to the issues at hand, and reminds me to be grateful, no matter what is going on in our country on any given day. :)
"Catholicism and Evangelicalism (and Mormonism and any Christian conservative denomination"
A good many of the Evangelicals I've known (I used to go to an Evangelical church) would say that Catholics and Mormons aren't really Christians. Can you feel the love?
The fact that you cite bogus statistics from MSM push-polling tells me all I need to know about your agenda.
Ive seen plenty of coverage on the school shooting.
Only because the question was worded as to appear to the uninvolved that Schiavo was on life support. Note that the poll question did not ask whether it was ok to deny all nutrition ORALLY.
Also - re the right to die issue - the poll question was worded in such a way as to imply her wishes were quite clear when it is anything but.
Biased polls produce worthless results.
If Terri Schiavo dies, I think you will see a lot of remorse among these "moderates and independents", and that backlash will go against the Deathocrats and the tyrannical judiciary. IMHO.
Dan Rather is itching to get on, he has whole stack of genuine memos to prove that Terri wanted what scumbag husband says.
Terri wil shake up "judicial" establishment.
You're reading this all wrong. Joe Indifferent is seeing a very high-profile it-could-happen-to-me example of how the Democrats are the Party of Death. Even plenty of liberals can see the plain truth of this case and are horrified by the courts sentencing an innocent woman to death, and worse, confirming and reconfirming it.
This will have a far greater destructive impact on the Democrats, who are struggling to hold even their shrinking coalition together, than the GOP. The dissenters in the GOP are largely federalists, and none of them are going to be fooled into thinking the Democrats' opportunistic promotion of federalism will last any longer than they believe it gives them advantage. But the emotion-driven among the left won't soon forget the power of the Democrats applied to gleeful murder.
I agree. Democrats, like Geraldine Ferraro are popping up all over the place to "explain things" to the public. They set up smokescreens to the real issues by spouting arguments that are totally unrelated to the major issues which are
Geraldine "educated" us today, saying that she is Catholic, as are the Schindlers, and Catholics believe in an afterlife. Geraldine also said if she were Terri she'd hate to have her picture broadcast all over the place. If Geraldine were PVS (as she says Terri is) she would not care a whit whether her picture were broadcast.
What do either of Geraldine's comments have to do with the real issues.?
Moran is on FoxNews now, saying we should be dealing with other issues like educating the thousands of other handicapped individuals. (Another non sequiter).
I doubt many people will be swayed either way by this case 20 months from now (November 2006 elections).
