HAS ANYONE WONDERED WHY THE MSM HAS ALL-TERRI ALL THE TIME? (VANITY)
Self ^ | MMarch 25, 2005 | Edward Watson

Posted on 03/25/2005 6:23:30 AM PST by Edward Watson

All of us conservatives know the mainstream media is anti-conservative, anti-Republican and anti-Bush. They ridicule and oppose the pro-life movement. They make fun of Catholicism and Evangelicalism (and Mormonism and any Christian conservative denomination).

Why then are they giving the Terri Schiavo situation this extensive coverage? One cannot watch the news on any TV channel or read any newspaper without the Terri Schiavo case as one of the leading stories.

We've learned several things over the past few weeks:

1. President Bush's approval ratings have PLUMMETED since he got involved.

2. Anywhere from 2/3 to 4/5th of those surveyed believe the GOP-led congress and President Bush SHOULDN'T have poked their collective noses into the case.

3. Many of those who want Terri's feeding tube reinserted have vowed to punish the Republicans for not doing enough.

What these mean is there's a direct negative causal effect against President Bush and the Republicans.

This is why the MSM is covering the Terri Schiavo case - they know it's a 'lose-lose' situation for President Bush and the GOP. The longer they play it; the more damage is done to the Republicans.

The leftists and liberal Democrats couldn't be happier. This single case has turned their fortunes around and instead of losing more congressional seats in 2006; they now stand to gain a significant amount - perhaps even retake control over congress.

Why? Because the GOP will lose support from moderates and independents for their 'interference' and will also lose support from those who will want to punish them for not doing enough to keep Terri alive.

So, way to go Republicans! You've now given the Democrats control over the US just because you let your emotions be manipulated without thinking of the consequences.

Congratulations! You have a developed a fan club (of sorts) over on DU:

Amazing! A Freeper gets a half-assed clue...

They agree with all your major points. They do take issue with one point you brought up – your absurd (in their world) contention that the media is liberal.

simple, ratings. ratings soar when people can watch the misery of others and when there's college girls in bikinis eating bugs, just ask Rupert Murdoch.

Speaking of beaten wives, have you stopped beating yours?

Well, since I am a female I can't answer that question. Maybe some of those in your new party can answer about same sex wife beating.

Because they know that if they didn't, they'd be getting deluged in outraged e-mails from FReepers demanding that they cover the story wall-to-wall?

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone compared Terri to Jesus Christ.

I'm not saying that Terri's feeding tube should be removed. I'm not saying that Michael Schiavo is a good man. I do have sympathy for Terri, and I do think Michael is a jackass. But things need to be put in perspective. We need to look at the big picture. Terri is not God. Repeat after me, Terri is not God.

I believe George and Jeb Bush are doing the right thing by trying to save Terri's life within legal means. What do you want them to do, send in federal stormtroopers a la Janet Reno to snatch Terri away? Expand the powers of the federal government to give it the power to decide what to do in cases like these?

If we let our emotions dictate our actions and use this issue to ram through legislation to make the federal government all-powerful, we'll be paying for it later. Maybe "Terri Uber Alles" will save her life, but how many Wacos and Ruby Ridges will come in the future because emotions were placed ahead of commitment to small government and liberty?

My tagline is especially relevant here.

That's not true. Most Republicans, in three different polls, opposed Bush's and Congressional involvement in this matter.

Then the culture of death has won.

Kind of makes politics irrelavent anymore.

That's only true if WE play along with them and jump on THEIR bandwagon.

What good is a government that starves a disabled woman to death? What good is a party that lets it?

The government isn't starving her to death, her husband is doing that. The fact that he CAN do it is a result of laws that allow him the final say over his wife's medical treatment. This has been a good thing for the most part, over the years, but there is no provision in the law for time when there is a conflict of interest on the part of the spouse who is making the decisions, and the spouse's biological family wants to take over.

We are a nation of laws, and those laws must be followed. We can't allow the 'government' to take matters into it's own hands because of an emotional argument. Remember, the 'government' will not always be in the hands of folks we might trust. In that event we would be wishing for them to follow the law. That's way the Democrats are not in power right now, because the voters perceived that they could not be trusted.

Let's not let the MSM determine how we make our political choices by inflaming our emotions in this case. It is clear they don't like Republicans in general and Christians in particular, so they'll to anything that will put these groups in a bad light. They want to turn us against the President so that the Democrats can return to power. Is that what will be the best thing for this country?

Goodness no, Jill... I wasn't comparing Christ to Terri. I am saying mearly that when it comes to making decisions about life and death, I would rather base them on what God expects us to do, rather than what the Government demands that we do.

Unfortunately too many have lost that moral clarity.

Blessings to you on this Holiest of days.

What these mean is there's a direct negative causal effect against President Bush and the Republicans.

If there's a price to be paid for doing the right thing, even if it means hurting you politically, then so be it. Saving the life of Terri means more to me than winning an election.

This is why the MSM is covering the Terri Schiavo case - they know it's a 'lose-lose' situation for President Bush and the GOP. The longer they play it; the more damage is done to the Republicans.

Actualy, the MSM thinks or HOPES it is a lose-lose for the Republicans. But what are they gonna do about it come election time? Point their fingers at Republicans and scream, "They tried to stop her from starving to death"? And how long can the Dems keep up the charade of pretending to be for states rights?

Even many congressional democrats have come to realize that this is not a losing issue for the Republicans, regardless of what the polls say. The MSM however, doesnt get it.
