2 movies I found worth watching recently. I found good undercurrents of traditional values.
"Spanglish" starring Adam Sandler (isn't he pro-Bush?) about a man in LA married to a neurotic wife (who is hilarious BTW) who hires a beautiful maid with a daughter. The maid cannot speak a word of English and is fiercely protective of her daughter. Adam Sandler is drawn to the maid because of his neurotic wife but in the end remains faithful to the wife. Lots of family values in this one. No affair takes place.
"In Good Comapny" with Dennis Quaid. About an advertising exec in Manhattan (Quaid) who is demoted from his job in favor of a hotshot half his age. Quaid is a family man who does selling the old-fashioned way. When the hotshot (a very funny and interesting to watch Topher Grace) has an affair with Quaid's daughter, he goes postal and punches his younger boss out. I liked this because there is no compromise with the fiercely protective Quaid. In the end the younger guy learns that he wants an old-fashioned values life just like Quaid.
Good, entertaining movies with some good laughs. Maybe not to take the kids to but good for a night out for the Mom & Dad. JMO.
In Good Company was worth seeing.
Uh... Isn't that Randy?
Saw a show on the making of this movie today. It looks like one I would really like to see, but why in the heck did they have to cast Alec Baldwin in a role????? That ruined it for me.
The military's relationship to the civilian authority -- and the civilian authority's own duties and responsibilities under a constitution and system of laws -- is also handled surprisingly well.
Along with being a good action/drama/sci-fi show, it's more of a civics lesson than just about anything else on TV.
Couldn't you just see him playing Russert in a movie or SNL ??
I Am David - April 5th
Thanks for the update...I have been waiting for this film for a while.
Hitchcock was a cinematic genius...never got an Academy Award for directing...can you believe it?
Films - directing, acting, narrative, etc. - today are measured against his sensibilities.
Easy now. The Quaid brothers were high school chums of mine.
I love dvdempire.com
QUICK: Which movie was a Quaid brother in with Jack Nicholson, about 30 years ago.
Last Detail (Randy Quiad).
Didn't have to look that one up (but misspelled Quaid in my hurry :).
Yep! You are quick and on the ball! All cylinders firing.

IIRC the Quaids are from Texas
Thanks, What's Up.
I sometimes despair of being able to go to a movie and see a good one.
I appreciated your posting this!

I loved Phantom!
I saw the play on Broadway, and it was good, but man, the movie was wonderful!

P.S. I also like The Forgotten, Coach Carter and Finding Neverland.
I. myself, love Platignum and Osmiroid calligraphy pens...

I think I would HATE Million Dollar Baby because basically it's a movie about a woman who aks her friend to murder her because she's paralyzed.
Totally anti-life message...
