~The Dragon Flies' Lair~XVII~
January 9, 2005 | bentfeather and Poets of The Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Ah Good morning MM!!

Such deep thoughts this morning. I can't remember what the first thought was for me when opening my eyes this day.

Later I guess I wrote some little poems
clearing the cobwebs from the mind
sifting out the litter and polishing
the gossamer to shine and remembering when
long summer days when spent laying
on the grass and dozing under a hot sun...

There is a huge poem sitting inside me
preparing itself to bloom
I feel it straining to burst out
laughing or perhaps a shout
We shall see the presence she be
Wearing velvets or silk negligee
or crying from the depths of her soul
a sad lovers song we both know.

Ja, MM the Finn is singing.

Precious thoughts in journals lay
until a poet comes its way
and opens up the covers wide
exposing thoughts to the
world side

Tiny faes, flitting by
bits of dust in my eye
no thoughts on wing
drifting by
not lint picking
from the sky

As the thought precedes
the act I would try
to journal back to
Henry David Thoreau and you

Hei, hei, Norskie, MM

I love those tomatoes, too
slapped on good bread
with bacon and mayo
thick as ice
a little blue cheese
hits the spot and cold milk
is worth the lot!!

The poet must continually be watching the moods of his mind, as the astronomer watches the aspects of heavens.

ah, SILVER words.

Our local fire department got a call that a flock of wild geese were stuck in a frozen lake. So a rescue team crawled out onto the frozen ice, pushing a boat and ice-breaking tools. They got within three yards--and the flock flew off. The men were left staring at open water. "So how`d it go?" someone back at the station asked. "Wild goose chase" was the reply.

KOKKO
This pyre is burned every year during Juhannus.

Dere Helga, a/k/a bentfeather reading at Juhannus, 2003.
I often read my own poetry at this celebration.
Finns celebrate Summer Solstice, longest day of the year.
In Finland it is a huge celebration.
Juhannus is the only day of the year where the Flag of Finland is not taken down-the sun does not set.
This picture is one of me doing a take off on the Red Hat Society.
The woman always wear a purple dress and a red hat designed by each member of the club.
That is a red nylon duster in my hat!
har har har.... dere Helga having fun!

More than anything,

I must have flowers,

Always, Always.

--Claude Monet

The name "daisy" comes from the Old English phrase "day`s eye" because some daisies open their petals in the morning, revealing the center disk, and close them each night.

R O S E

The rose is the oldest domestic flower known; fossilized imprints found in Florissant, Colorado, indicate that roses existed around 40 milion years ago.

I so love Gardenias ~

To prevent a gardenia from browning, spray with a mister bottle filled with full-strength lemon juice.

* I am going to try this tip above.

I place one in a small brandy snifter 1/3 filled with shaved ice, on top of my desk. Then I can lift it and smell its sweet fragrance without touching the petals, as they will turn brown.

Some things in life, I think are only to be admired, not touched.
The Gardenia is one.

~ melody

Smell ~

Smell is a potent wizard that transports us across thousands of miles and all the years we have lived.

Helen Keller

A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

--John Keats

A garden is a place to feel the beauty of solitude.

--Bob Barnes

I have a garden of my own... shining with flowers of every hue.

I love it dearly while alone, but I shall love it more with you.

-- Thomas More

The greatest gift of a garden is the restoration of the five senses.

--Hanna Rion

I have been thinking of our five senses all week long;

Sight Sound Smell Taste Touch

melody ~

~ Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.

Henry David Thoreau

Now I realize why I chose Thoreau this morning.

He answered my questions about the five senses for me, that I had pondered all week long.

I have always known which sense is most precious to me, but I think that I am to enjoy each one for the season in which allowed to me, to experience them. No matter how long or short the season.

It isn`t the length of the season, it that I experience them at all.

Today I will enjoy all five senses. *

~ melody

In joy or saddness, flowers are our constant friends.
We eat, drink, sing, dance, and flirt with them.

--Kokuzo Okakura

If I had 24 hours for living, the things that don`t matter could wait.
I`d play with the children and hear all their stories, I`d tell you I love you, before it`s too late.

Spring

The smell of warm mother earth
in my nostrils goes to the very core
of me and is the essence of me.

As the aroma of Fiddle Head ferns
or tomatoes plants or geraniums
on a warm day in June

MY FAVORIT FLOWERS ARE VIOLETTS. BEAUTIFUL TO LOOK AT. FREGRENT TO BREATH, SOFT AND FRAGEL TO THE TOUCH. BEST IS TO LAY IN A FIELD OF THEM SURONDED BY FOUR LEAF CLOVERS AND SOFT GREEN GRASS.

Yes, you make this come alive for for me, through memory of the sense of smell. Isn`t this amazing how we can retain our senses through memory?

I can smell each, tomatoes, geranium and fiddlehead ferns!

There is a woman who has a Fiddle Head Fern Farm near Talkeetna Ak.

She has written a little book telling about them and so many ways to cook them. Soon into Spring, we can pick them on the mountain side. I like to quick fry them. They taste sensational!

They are very healthy too.

They are so cute too! Did you ever hear of something edible being cute? These are a tiny spiral of green stem and they remind me of a little seahorse, kind of. They are so pretty on a platter or mixed in with other foods. They can be fresh frozen too.

Do you like them too?

There`s rosemary, that`s for remembrance;
pray you, love, remember.

And there is pansies, that`s for thoughts....

There`s a daisy. I would give you some violets,

but they wither`d all...

--William Shakespeare

Now LunaRed don`t you be upset about what William has said,
before days end I shall find you a fitting poem about violets!

Their fragrance is wonderful too, and lilacs ~ Oh sweet Spring hurry fast.

Oh yes, the fiddle head fern
a delight to eat
gathered from creek banks neat
in baskets or by the skirt full
the heads we snap above the frond
Curled all tight a solid coil
with little brown covers blown
to the ground or washed away in water
then dried in the sieve
a delight to a meal steamed
as asparagus, a unique taste
dripping in butter or a touch of lemon
the fiddle head fern ...I like them too.

The ferns in my back yard are fiddle heads.

Yes, I have frozen them many times.
