AMES A new Iowa State University animal laboratory is working on reducing the odor from livestock farms by controlling what the animals eat.
Associate Professor Wendy Powers the goal of the Animal Emissions Lab is to provide adequate nutrition while cutting back on dietary elements that produce gas.The lab -- with eight separate air-controlled rooms -- is now home to five pigs in each room. The pigs are being fed different diets to see how changes effect gases emitting from their manure. One diet replaces soybean meal with five amino acids. Powers says ammonia emissions have been cut by 55 percent in those pigs. She says scientists are starting to rethink how they evaluate odors in their efforts to reduce the the strong odors coming from livestock farms.
I just found this article amusing.
I wonder if the theory will work on my husband?
Stinky pig ping.
Given the dismal choice between soybean meal and 'five amino acids' for dinner, I'd have to go with the soybeans.
BTT!!!!!!!
Hide the livestock...
Can't stand the smell? Get off the farm.
Smells like money to me.
So this won't work on my husband???
:)
Yikes! heh.
This is ridiculous.
Next thing you know it will be against the law to burp or fart...O-zone or something.
Poop stinks...deal with it...
Bunny burgers for the poor?
