I'm looking for comments based on personal experience concerning the use of hypnotism for improved results in weight loss and other issues which may be enhanced by it's use.

I worked with a woman who quit smoking using hypnosis.
But, I swear, the hypnotist must have convinced her that she HAD to sell his clinic; from then on, she was constantly preaching that hypnotism could work on learning disabilities, potty training, marital problems, but only if the swami did it.

Well, maybe it helped her to get potty trained finally. LOL

I paid $225 several years ago for some help to stop smoking. I remember everything from the first minute to the time I left. If I was hypnotized, then It's news to me. I had a smoke before the day was over. It didn't work for me. I did stop, but it wasn't from the $225 investment.

I remember everything from the first minute to the time I left. In all fairness, it's really just a relaxation/concentration technique, so being in a deep trance isn't necessary, and lack of memory isn't part of it.
I've done a bit of research on it so that much I do know. But I'm looking for personal comments like yours as added info before spending time on it.
Thanks for the input.

It didn't work for me, I tried it for stopping smoking. Not one little bit did it work, a complete waste of money. Didn't work for my mother either.

I tried it to quit smoking 2 years ago....Walked in to the place a smoker...Walked out and haven;t smoked since. The wife had the same results...
I think the degree in which you sellout to the idea is directly proportional to the level of success you have with it. I went in a complete skeptic but absolutely determined to follow every instruction to the letter...Funny thing about the time dilation effect of the hypnosis...The whole thing took 1.75 hours...Felt like 15 minutes or so...Felt like I was floating in a warm Bath...
Again, I haven;t smoked in 2 years...

I agree. Hypnosis is not a magic pill. The one who is hypnotized must make a concerted effort to achieve the desired goal.

My grandmother successfully quit smoking years ago with acupuncture/accupressure (not sure which) where the therapist put a tiny plasic bead on the edge of her ear. Everytime she wanted a cigarette, she touched the bead. It worked for her immediately. So maybe something like that could work???

That's amazing...I've just been looking into hypnosis this week, and was thinking of asking FReepers what their experiences were.
I saw a Dateline episode a while back where five people were trying to lose weight. Dateline let each one choose which methos they wanted to use--one did Atkins, one Weight Watchers, one did Slim Fast, etc., and the other tried hypnosis and dieting. After a couple of months the hypnosis person had lost way more than anyone else.
Proof? No. But interesting...

Want to lose weight. I have a great diet. I'd publish it and charge for it but it is not long enough to fill a book. Here it is.
Plan A (For the really energetic)
1. Eat anything you want, as much as you want.
2. Exercise as much as you eat.
Plan B (For the rest of us)
1. Eat as much as you want and whatever you want.
2. After you eat, take a short stroll, even if nothing more than a walk a few houses down the street and back. Don't just sprawl out on the couch or go to bed immediately after eating, especially after a big meal.
That's it. Under Plan A or Plan B, you will lose weight. Choose the plan you are most comfortable with. And if you need any coaching, drop me a FReepmail.
Now, go to the fridge and get yourself a bowl of ice cream.
