There are so many things that make FR great. It's my favorite place on the Internet and I am proud to support it financially.

However, there are a few things that have been getting under my skin too.

1. Jokes about the "72 virgins" every time there is news of a Muslim terrorist being killed. Please. Over the last three years, every possible variation of the virgins joke has already been done. Hundreds of times. It is far, far beyond cliché by now.
2. Jokes about spitting one's food or drink on the screen or keyboard, in response to someone else's humorous post. Again, every possible variation has appeared here a hundred or a thousand times over. I dare say 99.99% of them are exaggerations for comic effect. It's getting almost as banal as the virgins.
3. FR slang (beeber, moose, cheese, hugh, series) in every thread, to no effect at all. At least donate to Jim if you are going to waste everyone's bandwidth like this.
4. Over-zealous moderators who zap cross-posts from DU as soon as they appear. Prime opportunities for hilarity, gloating, and schadenfreude, especially after they lose an election, are lost forever. Can we assess these individually on the basis of their merits?

Over-zealous moderators who zap cross-posts from DU as soon as they appear.

Now the system does it for them. "Content from DU is not welcome on Free Republic." Try it for yourself.

There is an automatic three hundred word limit that you can post from a source that must be excerpted.

If you excerpt an article you're not supposed to post more of it in comments.

I do the [snip] thing in excerpted articles so that the pertinent parts of the article can be discussed, while bypassing a lot of blah, blah blah.

If you don't post the interesting parts of the article other people might do it so that they can comment on it.

If they comment on sections of the article that are not posted it doesn't make sense to someone just reading the post and not going to the source to read the full article.

Some people seem to be snipping when it is not a site that must be excerpted, and I was wondering why. I see now that you, however, are just following the rules.

Do you know where I can find the current list of sites that must be excerpted? It must have been updated since I last read it.

Nope,actually many big L Libertarians here,have repeatedly said that though they disagree with 99% of everything the LP says,they are still big L Libertarians.Many big Lers saw the light after 9/11,though.That's when they decided to be little Lers,since yes,the big L ones are almost to a man/woman KOOKS!

You may have missed the one here,who repeatedly posted that there isn't anything at all wrong with child pornography and that he believed that the age of consent,for sex,should be 10;as should be the age one can vote,be.Then there were the ones who still say that the WoT is a fraud. I could go on and detail everything I've read here,posted by both big and little Lers;but that would be a waste of time and bandwidth.

And to tell people such as Howlin and myself,who have been here far longer than you have,know,for a certainty,what has gone on here for years,that we don't know what we're talking about,is puerile and egotism,on your part. We haven't told you what you think/know. LOL

Over the past 6+ years,I have seen Jim's views changed on any number of political things;Libertarianism included.To quote what he said 4 years ago,is thus silly in the extreme.Don't imagine that YOU can talk for him on that. Except for CCPing his various statements of the rules,is an act of supreme hubris!

I'm getting really sick and tired of seeing that long ass thread based on some zotted troll with the title that goes something like "ZOT!!!WHY DO YOU KEEP BANNING ME..JUWISH MODZ TOTALLY REWL". Can we please just delete the !@#$% thing?

It's not misspelled words per se that upset me. It's misspelled words in a thread title. You see, I like to read the Free Republic forum in "message" mode, because that way I get a feel for the stories that are currently most relevant. If there's breaking news, Latest Posts in message mode will have at least two or three threads pertaining to that story. But unfortunately this means that some titles will keep appearing over and over on the same page. If there's a misspelling, the error is not only amplified but repeated again and again. It's not just annoying; strangers who come to Free Republic to see what it's all about will see those carelessly composed titles, and we all get judged by them.

In other words, it looks really unprofessional. If Free Republic is ever going to attain its rightful place as a legitimate media form, every Freeper who posts a thread has got to take personal responsibility for the accuracy and professional quality of his posts.

You're painting all of FR's libertarians with a broad brush. 99% of us do not agree with such a thing. To make such implications is misleading and unfair. And Lord knows, you moderate FReepers sure have had your share of kooks in the past.

I was politely suggesting that you may have made an honest mistake which many have made in the past. And bringing up the senority thing is gay.

Over the past 6+ years,I have seen Jim's views changed on any number of political things;Libertarianism included.

I just checked the sidebar, and the RLC still has their forum hosted here. I suppose he still has a favorable view towards small-l libertarians.
