There are so many things that make FR great. It's my favorite place on the Internet and I am proud to support it financially.
However, there are a few things that have been getting under my skin too.
- Jokes about the "72 virgins" every time there is news of a Muslim terrorist being killed. Please. Over the last three years, every possible variation of the virgins joke has already been done. Hundreds of times. It is far, far beyond cliché by now.
- Jokes about spitting one's food or drink on the screen or keyboard, in response to someone else's humorous post. Again, every possible variation has appeared here a hundred or a thousand times over. I dare say 99.99% of them are exaggerations for comic effect. It's getting almost as banal as the virgins.
- FR slang (beeber, moose, cheese, hugh, series) in every thread, to no effect at all. At least donate to Jim if you are going to waste everyone's bandwidth like this.
- Over-zealous moderators who zap cross-posts from DU as soon as they appear. Prime opportunities for hilarity, gloating, and schadenfreude, especially after they lose an election, are lost forever. Can we assess these individually on the basis of their merits?

I can see your point. It'd probably be better to restrict posting for a month or two after registering, but FR seems to work this way too, largely because sincere Conservative friends are not punished in the process. We DO have the Viking Kitties at our disposal, and they DO do a good job. :) (Or have they slacked off?:) In any case, have a good night as I must get up early and go to my (pesky) job . :)

Maybe I took it the wrong way then. I do pay attention to most everything that's gone on here since '98.
It sounded like you were being facetious. Sorry.

Pray of thanks on the safe return trip home of Graybeard58's son
Steve, (FR name = smaagee) just home from Kuwait after serving in Iraq.
Also a special prayer request for Steve's friend Spec4 Matt Maupin who is still missing in action.
Here's Graybeard58's original post where he announces his son's homecoming:
He's Coming Home!

Can't believe no one's replied to your "Anal Chef" bit. It was hilarious. Made me think of a T-shirt I saw recently:
They say I have ADD, but are they right? I mean, how can they...Oh, look...a chicken!

People who don't understand that by using the slurs "fag", "faggot," or a variety of others, they are feeding the cause of gay radicals.
The engine that drives the cause of rabid homosexual activism is the appearance of bigotry. They claim the need to overhaul the culture to eliminate "heterosexism" every time someone opposes their agenda regardless of whether it is done with prudence and civility or venom and hatred. By allowing yourself to fit into a description of the latter category, you are, like it or not, playing into their hands.
Those who saw ABC News' uncharacteristically courageous 20/20 program casting doubt on the notion Matthew Shepard's murder was motivated by "homophobia" saw the forces of "Reverend" Fred Phelps' cult of anti-gay (and anti-American) hate invade the city of Laramie, WY on the day of Shepard's memorial service. What the story didn't tell you was that outside of Phelps' Phools, there were no protestors. The media allowed the idea to fester that there was some sort of grassroots uprising of anti-gay sentiment when in fact Phelps and his brood came in from their hometown of Wichita, KS -- as they have been for years -- in order to disrupt Shepard's farewell.
In the weeks following Shepard's killing, the Gay-stapo strategized how to capitalize on the idea that Shepard was killed out of "hate." The Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (a group of gay and pro-gay teachers that pioneered the "Gay Straight Alliance" school clubs) published talking points telling teachers how to bring up Shepard's murder in the classroom. Hate-crime legislation was put on the front burner by the Democrats and the MSM, predicated on the false notion that Phelps represented an ominous larger constituency that puts homosexuals at risk of murder 24/7.
You may think you're getting your ya-ya's out when you come to FR, and can act as if you are only among friends when you let fly with the anti-gay schtuff. You're not. FR is a public forum, and friends and foes alike watch us like hawks. As Unfit For Command co-author Jerry Corsi could tell you, honest opinions can be used to sully your reputation (and that of FR as well). When you are openly, aggressively, and irresponsibly hostile, it makes things worse for Free Republic as a whole.
There's nothing that needs to be said that must include the word "fag."

Heavenly Father, we return with grateful hearts to thank You for Your mercy upon Graybeard's beloved son ... thank You for his safe return ... thank You that You have kept him unto the time when he joyfully rejoined his anxious family.
We are mindful, Merciful Father, that this beautiful scene is recounted daily across our country, and we thank You for those who have served nobly and well, and who are safely home. Yet there are those whose lives have ended in the service of our nation, and we lift each breaking heart to You, O God, and ask that Your healing hand would be upon these families. Touch them in the very depths of their grieving hearts ... give them the knowledge that their countrymen hold very dear the precious blood that has been spilled for freedom and liberty ... there is no higher calling and no greater sacrifice, and we bow in deepest gratitude and cover their tender years with our tears.
Thank You that You know the pain that is being endured by Matt Maupin's family and friends ... sustain them unto the time when they have news of his fate. Yours is the authority over life, itself, yet we long to know that this young man would have length of days unto his children's children. Thank You that You have given to us abiding hope, and constant prayer. Look with mercy upon Matt and his family, and return him to those who love him. In the Name of Jesus, Amen ...
