Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Delicious!
Anyone hungry?
I struggled with math too, but I still managed to pull mostly As and Bs (my high school was really not very academically challenging). But I dropped math as soon as I knew I had enough requirements for college. The guidance counselor (a former math teacher) wasn't happy about that (she's the one who told my sister with the MSW that she wasn't college material). The guidance counselor also ignored the fact that for our school I got the second highest score on the math portion of the SAT (when in doubt, pick "C")
We've been making some inquiries and wife has met an admissions counselor from Virginia Tech. We can work with the math as long as he has enough credits.
What has become more evident in the past year is that he excels in certain areas. He was asked to be part of the percussion ensemble (only about 8 students) instead of playing in the regular concert band. He's doing really well with the production. Spanish teacher says he's doing well this year.
And I've actually seen him take the initiative to get some projects done. That's progress.
Once we've mastered actually doing the work then we'll work on quality.
Best of luck to Nana! As I read on another board, "Motion is lotion" and it's pretty much true, once the doctors give the green-light.
We're having waffles! Not the fancy yeast-risen kind that I like best, just the self-rising flour pancake recipe I always use. I just cook it in the waffle maker because I don't want to dirty up a pan. But the kids think they're a real treat.
1 C self-rising flour
1 C whole milk
1 large egg
1 heaping Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsp oil
Whir it up and cook! Can be whipped up the night before even and stuck in the fridge.
Since he doesn't seem to want to study a hard science, or be a programmer, I think there's only so much math he needs... just tell him he needs algebra and geometry for the SATs, but nothing more advanced than that. (The reason I didn't get a perfect score on my math SATs was that there were a handful of problems I hadn't seen in four years, having gone on to more exotic maths. But then, I like math. Shoot me.)
Oh, it's so much warmer today. I think it's in the 20s already. Darn, I have nothing to take for lunch...
Thanks. It's just paint. Sherwin Williams' "Kirsch Red"
Rosie, there's lots of decorate-by-numbers books out there. I'm fond of Chwistopher (sic) Lowell's "7-layers" series. His TV show is good, also. But I recommend taping it so that you can fast forward through the cross-dressing skits. ("We LOVE that! Don't we girls?")
LOL! There you go!
We didn't have any eggs. :(
I've been occasionally making sourdough flapjacks. I use the recipe you had, but use milk instead of water - and my starter is older now and doesn't really have any yeast flavor to it.
Makes wonderful flapjacks!
Although as a southwesterner, I can curse up a storm in Spanglish. But that's not very charming or ladylike.
I might get the book.
Gorgeous color!! I could never get SSQ to go for red in the dining room. Best I could prolly muster is a darker blue than will be in the kitchen/family room combo.
hehehe...I'm sitting here at my desk munching on Cracker Jacks.
Not a very healthy breakfast at all!
Heh...it's not just the paint. If that were MY house, the table would have tons of junk piled on it, there would be obvious fingerprints on the cabinet (if I hadn't managed to bust it already), and everything would be messy.
*sigh*
I try to flylady, but I fall off the wagon regularly. And the dogs being what they are makes it far harder. Not that the cats help any either, but...
Your dining room is gorgeous, such a rich color!
Off-topic, but "The Cholesterol Myths" is an absolutely fascinating book. It is jaw-dropping amazing how these "scientists" have so completely ignored those portions of their studies that do not fit the conventional wisdom. I thought about getting a copy for my physician, and I still might, but she would probably be sued for malpractice if she didn't prescribe statins to those with high cholesterol levels.
She's going on the Parish Prayer list today!
I'll have to remember that. Wife is also pretty good at not doing for Nana what Nana can be doing for herself.
LOL- you can't see the kitty prints in the pic. They love to explore. And you can't see the boxes and boxes and boxes of stuff that we still haven't unpacked cuz' we moved them into another room. We just spruced it up for picture takin's sake.
Mornin' LF!
Your dining room really does look lovely!
I used to watch Christopher Lowell every day when I was home with Becky. I'm a big fan of his decorating techniques and shortcuts too.
He's quite "swishy", but a terrific designer!
I believe he has his own line of homewares at Burlington Coat Factory, doesn't he?
He needs to start the "Happy Talk".
