FLASH: Kerry stated: 'That's why they had to close down the subway in New York when the Republican Convention was there.' (Driving home point that Bush as not done enough to protect the country.)

The NYC subway did not close at all during the convention, according to a report on cable outlet NY1...

KERRY: Yes, we have to be steadfast and resolved, and I am. And I will
succeed for those troops, now that we're there. We have to succeed. We
can't leave a failed Iraq. But that doesn't mean it wasn't a
****mistake**** of judgment to go there...

LEHRER: All right, new question. Two minutes, Senator Kerry.
Speaking of Vietnam, you spoke to Congress in 1971, after you came
back from Vietnam, and you said, quote, "How do you ask a man to be
the last man to die for a mistake?"
LEHRER: Are Americans now dying in Iraq for a mistake?

KERRY: ****No****, and they don't have to

Amazing that Bush let Kerry get away with blaming Bush for North Korea getting the bomb. Clinton gave them the material for the reactor and failed to monitor.

I think Kerry's "Bush is spending so much money on police and fire in Iraq" line is a loser. He says only he can win, but he doesn't want to spend money for body armor for our troops, he doesn't want to spend a penny prosecuting the war. IMHO, Iraq could use some police.

Kerry's positions are just indefensible.

Osama bin Laden is in Afghanistan right now.

He is? Last I heard he was in Pakistan or 6 feet under...

WMDs are coming over the border into Iraq everyday.

But I thought there were no WMDs?

I think the Bush strategy in this debate was to stay on message, let Kerry attack, and then attack Kerry after the debate in the media.

I'm not sure how wise that was, but Kerry sure made some whoppers.

He said the Iraq was a mistake but he would compound the mistake by continuing to fight it"better." How, by getting support from the allies. Lehrer did not ask him WHICH ALLIES.
and Bush did not hammer him on the DeGaulle reference by saying that Kerry was fixated on French participation. even though no amount of prodding will make Chirac send troops into Iraq. Indeed, that the French has just said again they will not. The most they will contribute is the forgiving of part of the Iraqi debt. Ditto the Germans. Then WHERE are the troops to come from?

Kerry: Hussein didn't attack us

Unfortunately for Kerry, the Iraq War Resolution he signed states that Hussein's Baathists fired missiles at our pilots "thousands" of times in the leadup to the invasion of Iraq.

I think POTUS and his team realize the real outcome of the debate is going to be determined by revealing Kerry's lies.

Bill Weld said that Kerry was so effective in making things up during the debate that it contributed to him being beaten during the Senate race in Mass. Weld said he wasn't able to challenge him on his "facts".

All this changes in pajamaland!

Here is another one ... just not true, Shinsheki retired as planned.

They avoided even the advice of their own general. General Shinsheki, the Army chief of staff, said you're going to need several hundred thousand troops. Instead of listening to him, they retired him.

the Bush Debate strategy in my opinion was to let the Horse Whisperer just ramble on, knowing that he is given to telling lies and making misstatements, and that those would be picked up in the media, i.e.,Rush,Fox, FReepers, etc., and they would be transmitted to everyone everywhere...If that is true, it may just work...

One question:

WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD EVEN SUGGEST CANCELLING A WEAPONS SYSTEM (NUCLEAR OR CONVENTIONAL) WHILE OUR COUNTRY IS ENGAGED IN A WAR WITH TROOPS IN HARM'S WAY?

Our troops have security in knowing that in the worst case scenario, they evacuate and big things that go boom are dropped.

Wants coalition on Iraq, but bi-lateral talks with North Koreans.

Essentially, you can sum what Kerry stands for in one fragment: anything Bush doesn't stand for.

Lurch said in in his opening remarks that Saddam was NOT a threat, but little more than 60 minutes later, in his penultimate remarks, he agreed with the president that Saddam WAS a threat. This may set the record for the shortest flip-flop yet!

Maybe the biggest mistake of the evening was at the end when Lehrer came over and shook hands and talked with Kerry.

Hmmmmmmm I smell something fishy.

I loved where he brought up Bush's dad, the Michael Moore-ish blood-for-oil theory and his Vietnam service all in the same rebuttal. Translation: "I'm petty, I'm a leftist whack job or pretending to be one so the whack jobs will vote for me, and I can't stop saying 'Vietnam.'"

There was also the part where he said he learned from Vietnam not to confuse the warriors with the war--this from a guy who accused every single Vietnam vet of horrible war crimes.

But there was this (which Kerry didn't mention of course):

Police in New York have arrested a US citizen and a Pakistani national on suspicion of plotting to blow up a subway station. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3608642.stm

What about the one when Kerry said troops were pulled out of Afghanistan and sent to Iraq?

Is that true?
