"Bush Should Have Died, Not Reagan": Morrissey (Washed-Up Pop Has-Been Opens Pie Hole)
Manchester Online ^ | 6/7/04 | Staff

MANCHESTER music legend Morrissey sparked controversy when he announced Ronald Reagan's death live on stage during a concert - and then declared he wished it was George Bush who had died instead.

Thousands of fans at Dublin Castle, in Ireland, cheered when the ex-Smiths frontman made the announcement that the former American president, who had battled with Alzheimer's Disease, had passed away.

And an even bigger cheer followed when Morrissey - who is no stranger to controversy - then said he wished it had been the current President, George W Bush, who had died.

Fan Tony Murray said: "He commented about the death of Ronald Reagan and when he wished that it was George W instead the crowd went wild."

The Dublin concert was the latest leg of Morrissey's European tour, which began at the M.E.N. Arena last month when the ever-popular performer made his first appearance in the city for 12 years.

He is due to appear at the Move festival at Old Trafford cricket ground next month.

A spokesman for Morrissey's record label, Sanctuary Records, said: "We do not have a recording of the gig, but as far as we can tell, Morrissey was just alerting the audience to the fact that Ronald Reagan had died.

"He then simply followed that up with his comment about George Bush, which was his own opinion. He is no stranger to controversy."

Thus gay or not, apparently he can't get a date.

He is celibate... or at least that is what he says.

I have to assume that Flav came up with the title.

I wonder...when he gets older, if he needs dentures, is he going to have them mounted with gold teeth as well?

Perhaps he is celibate in a "because even gerbils in the pet store are frightened of me" kind of way.

If I've gotten sufficient digs in for President Bush to have evened the score, please let me know.

Regards, Ivan

Here's my comments, since they don't seem to be really interested in hearing what I have to say:

Who's Morrissey?

I'd take 10 alzheimer--ridden Ronald Reagans over one washed up has-been singer who thinks his opinion of US Politics matters.

Go back to your hole wanker, nobody cares what your drug addled brain has to say.

The best example of triumph on the album is "I have Forgiven Jesus," which leaves the political role of England and America alone and explores Morrissey's personal interaction with God.

He asks the King of Kings: "And why did you give me so much love in a loveless world / When there is no one I can turn to ... Jesus do you hate me?" The song is soft but powerful, with a rising vocal and instrumental part able to convey the urgency Morrissey obviously feels in asking.

When he questions Jesus about desire, "I have forgiven you Jesus / For all the desire / You placed in me / When there is nothing I can do / With this desire," it almost feels as if it is penance for once singing "Give in to lust / Give in to lust / Oh, heaven knows we'll soon be dust" in The Smiths' "Pretty Girls Make Graves." He growls, "Jesus hurt me when he deserted me," before rising to a falsetto to reassure that "I have forgiven Jesus" - the validity of which is open to interpretation.

Sounds like he wants a date but rejects those around him. He's famous. He has fans (men and women) who throw themselves at him. He encourages such behavior. He has people who "love" him and yet he blames Jesus for not being loved. God loves the reckless sinner just as much as He loves the observant followers.

Even without a relationship, he is "loved". Additionally, he could date outside of his fan club if he wanted to.

Grrrr.
Tempted to tell the pillowbiter that he needs a new Brazilian 'face' lift since he's losing his hot air out a few orifices.

"Your comments

It seems they are not truly accepting comments about Morrissey's lunacy.

Mojo's cover of Girlfriend In A Coma is one of my favorite songs to listen to as I'm driving about in my truck. I would have brought it up, but I didn't think too many Freepers would get the reference.

Apparently he's a big fan of Dick Cheney, wants to see him President...

News I can get anywhere, but this kind of commentary is what keeps FR as my homepage.

Mojo is the best. Vibrator Dependent is by far the funniest song ever written. Actually all his stuff is great. Unfortunately I don't know if many people on here would appreciate his music.

"Put another Nixon in the White House 'cuz Mojo's not a Dick!"

Well, I'm hoping that it's coming to be patterned after Texas.
ALL statewide offices are held by GOP here. :^D

Of course, I'm not holding my breath.
