I Want a New Hole
by
Hobbit Lewis and the News from Bree
(ExGeeEye)

I want a new hole
One that's not to deep
One that's built on an uphill slope
One that's easier to sweep

I want a new hole
One that's close to the Road
With the Green Dragon not too far
A comfy hobbit's abode

One with a big brass doorknob
On a round green door
One that makes me feel like
You should come over for...
Elevenses and more...

Wneighbor: the elves are always bumping their heads on the cieling and leaving their bows in the hall, but as long as they bring lembas to go with the eggs and rashers of bacon, no problem.

Rosie: "Strange as news from Bree" was the idea :)

Hair: I might have one laying about at the house. Won't be back there until late this eve. Thanks for thinkin' of me that way :)

Hair,

I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy about 2 years ago. When I had completed reading Return of the King, I felt as if a lover and I had broken up. It was kind of sad.

Just this week, I started to read The Hobbit. I started to read it back in high school, but never got very far. Now suddenly, I am back in the world of JRR Tolkien again!

Hungry dwarves! Singing by the firelight. Second breakfast. Dragons and adventures!

Oh--thank the Lord for good literature.

Yikes! If I don't post quickly, I won't even make it into the first hundred posts!

The next hole will be our tenth? How time has flown!

So I haven't posted to a "hobbit" thread in months. Today I watched ROTK on DVD rental.

Having not seen my son or wife for months, let's just say it GOT TO ME.

I was drinking my wine, and bundled up in everything I owned (the barracks are without heat right now up here in Maine), and had my son's picture on the 'puter screen.

After the movie, I looked at his smiling face, and just broke down. I always thought of myself as a "macho type-man", but damn it, I miss my little boy.

The vivid portrayal of father-son in LOTR just plain wrenches my heart at times like this, worse since it's Memorial Day weekend.

I miss my boy, and my wife. I haven't seen them for months, and I've only spent a few days with them in the past year.

Fortunately, LOTR reminds me of things like Honor, Courage, and Commitment. They give me strength to carry on.
