How any discussion of this topic could omit "MacArhtur Park" eludes me completely.

Good grief. You simply can't rank songs as "best" or "worst." Everything about them is subjective. I loved We Built This City, and I enjoyed most of the music of the 80s, my formative years. My CD collection has everything from the Rolling Stones to Creedence Clearwater Revival to Britney Spears to Poison to Neil Diamond to Barry Manilow to Clay Aiken to etc. etc. If you like it, listen to it.

Thanks for the no harm done post topic.
If "Jerremiah Was a Bullfrog" evades the list I will be disappointed.

It's a rotten song IMHO, but "Seasons in the Sun" is soooo much more lousy it should be #1!

Sorry -- I think "Yummy, Yummie, Yummie I've Got Love in My Tummie" by the Archies has to be the number one stinkeroo of all time in all dimensions in all universes.

There have been worse songs, but I guess they mean the worst hit songs. I never cared much for "We Built this City...., but it is lyrically deep compared to such classics as "Kung Fu Fighting".

I can't stand "Brand New Rollerskates" (Melanie, I think), or "You Light Up My Life" by Debbie Boone.
I'd rather listen to a Kerry speech.

The all-time worst song ever has to be "Afternoon Delight" by Starland Vocal Band.

Chorus:
We bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
Bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
Say you don't know me, while adding up the cum
Say you don't care who votes to that kind of bum
Knee deep in the hoopla, spending all your cash
Too many democrats smoking up the stash
Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember
We bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
Chorus:
We bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
Bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
Someone's always playing corporation games
Who cares they're always changing corporation names
We just want to be free, someone sold the stage
They call us irresponsible, write us off the page
Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember
We bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
Chorus:
We bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
Bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
It's just another Sunday, in a tired old car
another bad election, and we just lost the war!
Who counts the money underneath the bar
Who makeses fundrasing balls with big movie stars
Don't tell us you need us, 'cos you're just simple fools
Looking for America, coming through your schools
Don't you remember (remember)
Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember
We bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
Chorus:
We bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
Bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
Chorus:
We bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
Bilked this city, we bilked this city of all its dough
(We bilked, we bilked this city) bilked this city (we bilked, we bilked this city) (repeats out)

Most rock journalism is people who can't write, interviewing people who can't talk, for ... oh, you know the drill.

Billy Squire "Stroke" or "Everybody wants you" gets my vote.
To me nothing proves any better how lame the 80's were than the phenomenon of air guitar. I had some buddies that formed an air guitar band. Each one had their own instrument that they played each time. They actually won a talent contest in high school playing air guitar to Night Ranger's "Don't tell me you love me" An awesome solo by the lead guitar..

I nomiate:
'Disco Duck' as worst song ever
followed by 'The Pina Colada Song'
'Don't Worry, Be Happy' was tolerable the first 135,000 times I heard it ...
also 'Flashlight' by Parliment Funkadelic ... real bad
'D.O.A.' probably was the worst 'song' ever, but it hardly rates as a song ... that was just in poor, poor taste
I won't even mention Helen Reddy's atrocities by name ...
Culture Club's 'Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?' deserves dishonorable mention ..
barf!!!

LOL... Reminds me of that one episode of "The Simpsons" when they go down to Florida for spring break. Homer ends up at a Kid Rock concert, jumps on stage, and sings... "We Built this City".

I am vindicated! I absolutely despise that song. It is the worst of the worst to issue forth from that black hole of music history known as "the 80's".
