The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yes! - I recommend the book! There is a lot more story in the books that the movie didn't touch on!
The lengths the jockeys went to lose weight...
And the ongoing trouble they had keeping the horse sound. He had much more ongoing leg trouble than the one injury.

That's what I shoulda done! Turns out, he drank two sprites, and ate three bites of chicken. We had a good dinner, but the service was to be desired, and we ended up not even getting the check until 8:35. We had been there since 6:45. Just now getting home. For a Friday, I might not be surpirsed. However, it is Tuesday, and all the tables around us had been served and *new* parties seated and served before we even got the ticket. Think we got forgotten. Needless to say, the server didn't get a great tip.

Really? I honestly thought there was way too much graphic sex. And it was too bad because otherwise it was pretty good.
Kind of like a fantasy series I like, George R. R. Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire". Sometimes it's a great political fantasy, huge scope, lots of interesting characters. But there are chapters I just can't read because it's all graphic sex.
It's just one of my pet peeves.

Sounds like a bit of a disappointing dinner. But, at least you didn't have to cook! And elf-boy isn't going to starve to death. :-)

Oh yeah! You HAVE to read Tad Williams' "Otherland", if you haven't. I love that series. Up there with Tolkien, Heinlein, and Connie Willis, IMO.

Truly, I appreciated the amount of research she put into the books, and it showed in the writing. I could have definitely done without all the sexual aspects, but like with Stephen King novels, I glossed over it to get to the good parts.

Huh... well, I'm glad you enjoyed them. I have to put up with a lot in my reading... and it was a cool idea.
One novel I read that you might find interesting is "Sarum" - author's name was Rutherford - but it traced about 2500 years of history in the Salisbury, England area along a family line. The research seemed well done and the various stories were all interesting.

I just can't read because it's all graphic sex. Well... I can't speak to the whole series. All I read was Clan of the Cave Bear. I don't remember any graphic sex. Maybe I should re-read it. Perhaps I missed something. :-)
Or perhaps... oh, nevermind. You should see what I wrote here and then thought better of... Dangit. :-)
