The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Great picture!!! Now, howcome you were with the weinermobile?

I took my nephew to the Henry Ford Museum last summer, and he snapped that shot. Despite all the other primo cars in the museum, I saw the weinermobile, and it just screamed "me!".

Winmag I just don't know what to say to that! I can imagine all the awesome cars they have there.... but gee, I'm glad you found *your* car! :-)

I think it would be more "you" with a twin .50 mounted in a turret at the top of the wiener. At least I hope so... :-)

That would be more like something I would expect for a Winmagmobile!

That wienermobile is built on a 1948 Crosley chassis. I couldn't bring myself to mess with a classic like that.

I think the armored Chevy Suburban with the remotely-operated ma deuce in the pop-up turret would be more practical for me. That would be my number-two dream machine. Number three would be a Hummer with a dummy M-60 on top (this is Michigan, you know). Number four, and the only one remotely possible in my universe, would be a high-end 2006 Vette. Gotta give them a year to debug the C6 platform.

Er, you now have two mails.

Just finished answering the first one; I'm going over your next chapter now.

Agree on DeCamp and Fletcher; DeCamp's Conan collaborations with Lin Carter are also among his best stuff IMO.

hehehe... roger that, but I would argue that "it ain't about practical".

Roger on the C6. Time to wait... tho... that '05 Mustang is just screamin' my name. I might be pre-ordering mine here pretty soon.

Yeah.... Anything beyond mounting a big ole weiner to the top of it would be 'too much'. ;~D

I have avoided "Conan" out of, probably, ignorance. The Pratt-deCamp collaborations are probably the best sword and sorcery out there. Inspired how many dozen imitators?

And relish. Gotta have relish on a dog like that.

Snow, snow, beautiful snow... argh... I want spring!!!

Weather folks are predicting 6-10" here. DANG! We were hoping the surveyor could come out this week so we can get the ball rolling on this remodel! Oh well, there are lots of things we can be doing before then anyway!

Yes; but they were in turn imitating Conan, as I'm sure Pratt and deCamp would be the first to admit :)

Just about done with my Chapter 8 comments.

We just got finished watching Seabiscuit . What a sweet movie! I'm gonna need to read the book, now, to find out more about all those folks.

Thank goodness, most of this mess is past us. They say, few snow showers tomorrow. I can handle it... maybe.

And we were supposed to get 3-6 but got 1/2 an inch, plus nasty cold rain, instead.
