President Bush traveled to New York today to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nassau County 9/11 Memorial in Eisenhower Park, Long Island, being built in memory of the 281 residents of Nassau County who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks, and visited with families of the victims. Before he left, he made a statement to the press regarding the terrorist attack in Madrid, Spain.
He also visited USA Industries, an automotive parts manufacturing company in Bay Shore, New York, and spoke to workers about the economy and jobs training. He then attended a fund raiser with Rudy Giuliani and Governor Pataki.
There are lots of fabulous pictures today, so enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose !!

I am so glad you aren't allergic to latex. That is such a difficult thing to avoid.
Cloves? I have never heard of a clove allergy before and I never heard of it being used in dental work.
What is it supposed to do? Does it help stop bleeding or something like that?
I loved Bellingham. I went there to live with a friend that I met when she was in Houston on a mission trip.
We became really good friends and I moved up there with her for a year. I was 20 years old at the time. So that was 24 years ago!
I loved it so much! There's not much to look at in this part of Texas. I had never even seen mountains before I went there.
So, to finally see mountains and snow, to have boy scouts teach me to make an igloo, see apple trees, Puget Sound, Mt Ranier (goodnesss the list is sooo long!) Anyway to see all of that just thrilled me.
Someday, I will go back to vacation there.

Yeah, I slow down around this time of night too.
I love it though. No ringing telephones, no obligations.
Just sitting around and relaxing while I check out FR. and watch all of the little half hour comedy shows!

Take a look at that last picture on post 6. I hope no one gets offended by me saying this, but the way he is standing, with his feet turned in and his hands clenched, he reminds me of the way little boys stand when they "have to go."
He is so cute.

From pictures I've seen, your coast is similar but much more majestic than ours! AND you had General Joshua Lawrence Chamerlain to grace your history.
I love hiking on our easier mountain trails, and one of the things I hope to do this summer (will see how it goes) is to hike a trail that leads three miles out to the Pacific Ocean in the NW corner of the BEAUTIFUL Olympic Peninsula, going through an incredible range of differing scenery and flora.
This state is spectacular. Just breathtaking on the Western side.
I live nestled in between two enormous mountain ranges, the Olympics on the West, across Puget Sound, visible as I drive down the hill from my home, and from almost any point in Seattle; and the Cascades with Mt. Rainier (14,440', highest peak in the contiguous states), Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Baker, Mt. Adams, etc. Water everywhere -- rivers, canals, lakes (big and small), Puget Sound, the ocean ... waterfalls, island getaways, green glens, rain forest, blazing autumn deciduous trees, moderate climate, and best of all, that salt air!

It may be that FR's servers are slow tonight.
I've experienced sluggish response time on FR today and now.
It's not likely that ALL of us are experiencing problems with our ISP's tonight.

Sometimes I feel very anxious to get over this injury and get back to work. At other times, I am grateful to have some down time.
The last few years have been pretty bad for me, so this time of rest is probably good for me.
I can't go back to work until I have a couple more surgeries at least. The first one will be around this time next year.
Speaking of the compassion that the President has, in the picture where he is standing upright after shoveling the dirt, is he wiping tears away?

When I saw Bush oddly-stanced I thought that looks like the way he turns when he's decided to stop talking to the media and then someone calls out a question and he decides to answer it, and pivots.

Oh, now I really miss it. I lived right at the edge of Western Washington University. I could see Mt. Baker from my window. Such a beautiful state. Sigh...

Yeah, that's probably it. He is always so much fun to look at and speculate on what he's thinking or doing.
Sometimes, I feel like I know him so well, that I half expect him to come knocking on my door for a visit! (please come, Mr President, anytime!)
That is such a great quality he has, most of us WANT TO CONNECT WITH HIM in some way.
I love that about him.

The cloves (I checked into this later) help (in non-allergic people) to soothe the dental nerve after they do all that crashing and banging around to get ready to seat a crown, and I think it helps with swelling.
Igloo building! My fourth grade teacher taught us how to do that in the aftermath of a handy snow storm. He taught us how to make snow blocks, and the basics of igloo building, in the warm classroom, not telling us what we were going to be expected to do with this interesting knowledge till he took us outside for an unscheduled "recess." Then he let us loose. Told us, "Build an igloo. Break up into teams and each team build one."
We FREAKED! We'd never had a teacher do anything like this. We whined, "But HOW?" He told us to remember what he'd told us. And he stood back while every one of us figured out that we had to choose a team leader, get organized, think as a group, remember in earnest what we'd heard in a leisurely spirit, work out a design, get the guys to do the heavy lifting (snow blocks do get heavy, no?), and put it all together.
Mr. Tracy was an incredible teacher.
We all succeeded, each with a somewhat different design. There was no formal grade for the recess project, just the joy of knowing we DID IT. And I cannot think of a school project of which I was more proud.
I'm so glad you got to live here and sample the beauties of one of those places that I think can truly be called "God's country." I'm from Michigan, and may I say, I am very glad to say, I am FROM Michigan. ;-)

I had never even seen mountains before I went there. They do give a person a much bigger view of all God did when He created this old earth, and the cataclysmic forces that shook our planet to make the deep inner parts of the earth be thrown up to such massive heights. I cannot go outside without being struck by it -- the Cascade foothills are just a few miles from my front door. It always puts me in mind of how big God must be that this one element of His creation -- mountains -- makes me so small, and yet infinitely more precious to Him than all the massive natural wonders.
Were you here when St. Helens blew, or a few years after?

That is very interesting about the cloves. I'll have to keep that in the back of my mind.
I loved your igloo story. It's funny which memories stick with us the most.
When I learned to build the igloo, the boy scouts did the lifting for me, but they sure looked heavy.
Those were the days. I was just barely 20 years old and the boy scouts were the teenage boy scouts. We girls didn't have to do much of anything!
Boys can be so sweet sometimes!
Well, I think I'm done for the night. My headache is growing by the second.
Nite, nite.
Talk to everyone tomorrow!

I was there before Mt.St Helens did her thing. I sort of wish I had been there though.
I am fascinated by things like that.
Your descriptions of the mountains and the feeling you get about God's awesome power is just the way I felt!
(It's hard to get the same feeling by looking at a longhorn steer!)
I know they are God's creation, too, but the mountains are just so majestic!
Well, I'm signing off now, I have a raging headache!
See you tomorrow.

Not as harsh as they deserve.

I know just how you feel...
That knee injury back in November was horrid for me..
It was painful, and I went through some awful depression
I wish I had handled it better, and looked at it the way you are right now..but I was freaked, because my Dad needed me so, and then the money thing and all that..
Everything has turned out well..
So what I am saying to you is rest, and enjoy your down time, and know I am rooting for ya!
Yes, it looks to me as though he is wiping away tears..
the only time Kerry would wipe them away, is if he got caught at something!
