From pictures I've seen, your coast is similar but much more majestic than ours! AND you had General Joshua Lawrence Chamerlain to grace your history.

I love hiking on our easier mountain trails, and one of the things I hope to do this summer (will see how it goes) is to hike a trail that leads three miles out to the Pacific Ocean in the NW corner of the BEAUTIFUL Olympic Peninsula, going through an incredible range of differing scenery and flora.

This state is spectacular. Just breathtaking on the Western side.

I live nestled in between two enormous mountain ranges, the Olympics on the West, across Puget Sound, visible as I drive down the hill from my home, and from almost any point in Seattle; and the Cascades with Mt. Rainier (14,440', highest peak in the contiguous states), Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Baker, Mt. Adams, etc. Water everywhere -- rivers, canals, lakes (big and small), Puget Sound, the ocean ... waterfalls, island getaways, green glens, rain forest, blazing autumn deciduous trees, moderate climate, and best of all, that salt air!

Oh, now I really miss it. I lived right at the edge of Western Washington University. I could see Mt. Baker from my window. Such a beautiful state. Sigh...
