~The Dragon Flies' Lair~ VIII
January 29, 2004 | bentfeather, Poets of The Dragon Flies' Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Suddenly I had a thought....
What if I had written Moby Dick?
So I decided to give it a try.

Smooth & white,
rare & pale,
forever I chase the alabaster whale.
Now this is bad,
I've gone mad,
still I chase the alabaster whale.
Dead I now be,
lost at sea,
no longer do I chase the alabaster whale.

Heartsfriend, Heartsong,
how will this end?
On what should the easing
of your pain depend?

Shall I share
my colors austere,
to be strength and solace
in your soul's despair?

I make, with Blue
a peaceful place for you,
in a circle of arms,
drinking your eyes' hue.

Black velvet, Fair One,
brings out your skin
that lovely costume
your heart rides in.

With Red, I shall warm thee,
to rival the fire
that kindles my heart
and my gentle desire?

Or, better with Green,
this modern knight's armor,
a fitting coat
for a heartfriend's ardor?

Refresh, then, your pallette,
and practice your art!
For not alone here,
is your tender young heart.

The whole entire book summarised in 9 lines?!
*chuckle*
Okay.
I'll accept that.

I thought you might be curious...

about something I wrote for my novel.

It's part of an ancient poem, called, "The Oldest Song". It's a poem of oral history, from a time that only the Dragons remember:

For Six Days, And Six Nights,
the Children Played with Us in the Skies.

Then came their Mother.

And there were no skies.

Interesting. Novel? About what exactly?

I tend to find writing poetry different than writing
a story, though I can accomplish both if need be.

I've never actually read Moby Dick, however, you
know a book is bad when you can actually tell the
story accurately with just a few lines.

It'd take a long time, and I don't think Bentfeather would appreciate my hijacking her thread.

As if I haven't thus far...

Oh, I see. She doesn't seem to mind
much, though. You could always ask
if you can post at length.

This is wonderful Sarge. I have not seen this before now.

This thread is for writers of prose, poetry, and song lyrics. I appreciate original work, although on occasion I post others work and unknowns work. Unknown writes a lot of stuff. LOL

Perhaps a novel posted in chapters should prevail.
I link all the threads so one can follow through from the beginning to whenever we finish.
The Lair belongs to it's poets and writers.

I love the classic poets and love having them posted here for all to enjoy.

Well, it's a synopsis that goes like this:

After the last Ice Age, the Beasts gathered in council to determine who would rule this beautiful new world that the ice had left for them.

Of all the creatures of this world, only a few had what they called, the StarSeed; the gift to imagine things as they could be, not as they were, and to create new things. And the StarSeed compelled them all, to always gaze at the celestial lights, longing for them.

The Beasts concluded that the new creature, Man, had the best chance to make of this new world, a place that was best for all. And also, they realized that Man, of all the creatures, posessed the StarSeed to the greatest degree, so much so, that they longed to return to the stars from where the StarSeed came.

And all the Beasts swore what was known as the Great Oath: that all would use every gift and talent at their disposal, to aid the humans in their return to the stars.

But, where did the StarSeed come from? How did it get here, and into the creatures?

Only the Dragons remember; they who had existed from the times of the Beginning, who remembered the world as it was, when their great and mighty kin, the Sauryans, ruled this little world.

Until that terrible day, that is still remembered in The Oldest Song, that the Dragons still remember:

For six days and six nights,
the Children played with Us in the skies.
Then came their Mother.
And there were no more skies.

Do you know of the Kalevala? It's a collection of old Finnish songs and verses or "Runes." Players of the kantele and sing runes from memory are known as "rune singers".

A Finnish country doctor Elias Lonnrot collected these songs and wrote them down, thus we have the Kalevala. He did this in early 19th century.

No more diamonds on your hand
No more soul at your command
No more kisses in the dark
No more asking for my spark
No more lovemaking at noon
No more moonlight walks in June
No more joy, for love is dead
No more plans for us to wed.

I know of them, at any rate.

The Norse traditions are more than just a fancy of mine.

I've got one manuscript, and two outlines for sequels.

Only tears and sadness now
Only memories, somehow
Only pictures in my mind
Only joy that I can find
Only sitting all alone
Only waiting for the phone
Only missing you tonight
Only wanting your love's light.

Well now Sarge looks as though you have been writing a fair bit. A manuscript. Good news.

Only visions of happy times
Only one chapter of a book
Only some memories remain warm
Only at night do I feel the emptiness
Only then the hole is exposed
Only I don't dare look at it
Only then do I escape in sleep
Only to awaken another day
Only another month to go
Only then will I be able to hang on

Let me build for you
a refuge for your heart.
A sanctum place of comfort
for when we must be apart.

A place for morning tea and cake,
a place for luncheon bell,
a place for evening walks and talks
o'er lavender-sweetened dell.

For in this place, of yours and mine,
flowers below and lofts above,
secreted in that topmost garret
is where you and I shall love.

To live in such a place
would be
almost heavenly
lofty dreams floating free
is there room for My Dragon Fly and me

In the tower high above
a wonderful place to make love
high above the fields of lavender
meant for only two to gather
on midnight strolls hand in hand
oh now would this not be grand
