Five days after the Packers bowed out of the playoffs in frustrating fashion, Ed Donatell was fired as the team's defensive coordinator. Tight ends coach Jeff Jagodzinski was also let go. Story to come

They're the best kind of player to watch, and their careers are usually shortened due to injury (crazy players do crazy things and get hurt often) so it's important to watch close.

Anyone who enjoys a Big Mac has absolutely no appreciation for food.

I'd rather go hungry.

I've got family in that chunk of the world. Some of them are Bears fans just to pi$$ off their neighbors. I can relate, I root against UA football for the same reason; I used to root against the b-ball team until I met headcoach Lute Olson, he's too cool to root against. But the minute Lute retires... there's just something fun about rooting against the home team.

McNabb had such little rush in that game that his recievers running routes had as many as three on the same play

That about sums it up.

When we moved here there were some things we missed so much that we had to start making them right here. If you explain a good Pasty recepie to me, I'll trade you some scrapple.

This year he seemed to have figured it out, he seemed to have realized that just because you have a HOF QB doesn't mean you can't have a good running game... until 3rd quarter. Going for it on 4th in the first half and not making it seems to have really shaken the team out of its rhythm, should have kicked the FG. Don't get greedy until you have to. And yes I'll admit I was pro-going for it at the time, I only have a cool football head after the fact.

I am liking your posts and your way of thinking. I live where there are a ton of Bear fans (obviously) and they are always hoping for Favre to retire. I tell them that every sport needs the greats, the icons. And, Favre is one of them. I remind them that once the greats are gone, they are only left in memory or film - but they are gone from the field forever. I always tell them that, as a Packer fan, I hated what Walter Payton did to the Packers. But I LOVED Sweetness....because he was a phenomenal FOOTBALL player. God, he was great. I'm sure he may have lost a game or two with a crucial fumble. But, he will always be on my personal dream team.

With that, I usually get a pause from even the most steadfast Bear fan.

Someone brought up McNabb's toughness in an earlier post and all I can say is Favre's streak is still alive whereas McNabb had to sit out a couple of games. Also a couple of other running QB's had to sit out because of injuries sustained while running; Vick and Culpepper. Is this a future trend as alot of people are contending? The injuries speak for themselves. It's great to have a playmaker when all else fails, but that playmaking obviously becomes useless if the playmaker is sitting on the bench. Teams must have solid backups if this is the way they want to go. And right now there just aren't enough talented QBs to go around to fill that role.

"jaugust....How ya doin'??"

Still "crying in my beer" just as Eagles fans would have me doing. Actually, have more pressing concerns right now. Changing careers, etc. Even though the Pack won't be playing I look forward to this weekend's games with a great deal of interest. I still do love the game of football, no matter who wins.

Favre's last 3 playoff losses: 6 INT's vs. Rams
Stunk vs. Falcons - Vick totally outplayed him
Awful game giveaway floater the other day - McNabb totally outplayed him

I don't hate Favre - I would take him too on my team if I couldn't have any of the real top 5 QB's in the league. But his frequent bad judgments and awful plays keep him from being truly great - the best ones don't screw up as often as he. He is exciting, durable, and has won - and I agree will make the HOF. But he is not in the upper tier of alltimers the way the media makes him out to be. Hence overrated.

One shouldn't let team loyalty blind you to greatness. I hate the Niners but loved watching Jerry Rice in that uniform. The Cowboys are my least favorite team in the league, but damn Emmitt Smith was something to behold (I'll even give props to Neon Dieon, a thuroughly obnoxious person who should be recognized as the greatest cover corner ever).

I'm a recovering Chicagoan myself with family from both sides of the UP line, so the NFC Norris is in my blood (we've got Lions fans, Packer fans and Bear fans, and we unite in our hatred of the Vikes). We're a hockey family as well as a football family, Number Four Bobby Orr's unfortunately short but amazing career happened during my formative year. I was taught, largely thanks to him I think, the difference between booing the uniform and the man and when which one is appropriate.

I was being facetious about the game being thrown. But how do you think Favre's papa felt about Brett handing a sack record to Strahan? That was one of the cheesiest and unprofessional things I've ever seen in football. Can't see Johhny U or Bart Starr doing that!

There's a difference between a broken thumb and a broken ankle. McNabb is tough, he might not be Brett Favre tough but neither is Steve McNair tough (who's tough to the point of possibly being suicidal).

Scrambling QBs are more prone to injury, they wear less pads, spend less time beefing up, and get hit from more angles.

I'm not sure there aren't enough talented QBs to go around. The glory days for he position are behind us, there certainly aren't as many A+ QBs as there used to be, but I think the average QB is better than they were in the glory days of the position. Also it's a more defensively oriented game so QBs are getting less opportunity to try to be A+ (a show on Fox Sports last night had some guy point out that o-coordinators get on average 1 million dollars less than their defensive counter parts, didn't show any numbers but if they're right that really shows how the game has changed).

Better team?

With a team that rushed for over 200 yards against an Eagles defense, and had 7 sacks against McNabb?

Better team?

The Packers should have nailed this victory down early but couldn't. (Green tripped over Whale's feet on 4th and goal, otherwise he would have scored.)

I think they both played poorly at times, but I wouldn't say the Eagles were the better team.

I know... I know... who's going to the championship game.

Good luck on Sunday...

There is a reason why NFL QBs don't make a carerr running the ball. Vick is a perfect example of this: the "greatest player that never plays."
