so it's important to watch close.I am liking your posts and your way of thinking. I live where there are a ton of Bear fans (obviously) and they are always hoping for Favre to retire. I tell them that every sport needs the greats, the icons. And, Favre is one of them. I remind them that once the greats are gone, they are only left in memory or film - but they are gone from the field forever. I always tell them that, as a Packer fan, I hated what Walter Payton did to the Packers. But I LOVED Sweetness....because he was a phenomenal FOOTBALL player. God, he was great. I'm sure he may have lost a game or two with a crucial fumble. But, he will always be on my personal dream team.
With that, I usually get a pause from even the most steadfast Bear fan.

One shouldn't let team loyalty blind you to greatness. I hate the Niners but loved watching Jerry Rice in that uniform. The Cowboys are my least favorite team in the league, but damn Emmitt Smith was something to behold (I'll even give props to Neon Dieon, a thuroughly obnoxious person who should be recognized as the greatest cover corner ever).
I'm a recovering Chicagoan myself with family from both sides of the UP line, so the NFC Norris is in my blood (we've got Lions fans, Packer fans and Bear fans, and we unite in our hatred of the Vikes). We're a hockey family as well as a football family, Number Four Bobby Orr's unfortunately short but amazing career happened during my formative year. I was taught, largely thanks to him I think, the difference between booing the uniform and the man and when which one is appropriate.
