Poetry and Potpourri .... November 5-6, 2003

.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Welcome, and thanks.
The roses are Jackson and Perkins 'Blue Girl'.
(I have one, but instead of being the shade seen... they're more of a pink.)

*chuckle*
I've seen them a better more blue shade.
(I've also seen them blue, but that was many many years ago. The rose didn't, and wasn't, consistent in it's color- hence it being discontinued. You can get a Blue Girl, but not from J&P anymore.)

 TO AN OLD FRIEND

who would guess
through lover's nights
and many hidden tears
and none the less
we had our fights
yet through these lonely years

as friends we've stayed
as if we made a pledge
that love would last
the games we've played
once pushed us to the edge
but that too passed

it's ego's fault
and I will take the blame
the sin is mine to bear
but my heart's a vault
that cherishes your name
I am your friend...I care

my prayer is this
that time has made you ponder
our love was much
         to difficult to kill
and here's the bliss
the years have made us fonder
our friendship such
         that love is present still.

 THE ALTERNATIVE

I grow older and I say:
"this life is good"
I give thanks most everyday
as well I should
Yet, living is the way to death
one step closer with each breath
so savor every moment dear
be it laughter or a tear
all of life was meant to live
consider the alternative!

Little notes like that is what keeps the poems coming to the surface.

Well, I hope your poems will continue to surface here. :-)

Aloha from chilly California.......wish I was in Maui.

I just left Calif. for Maui last thursday and that was the coldest morning in the two months I was there. I said , " winter is upon us, feel this morning air".

Thank you so very much for the two additional poems.
I have absolutely no talent for writing poetry, tho I do enjoy the talent of others.
Thank you again for sharing your wonderful talent.
I look forward to seeing more of your works.

I just got home from a Fresno State basketball scrimmage. It was our first chance to get a look at our new sports arena. I'm looking forward to the first basketball game.

Sorry if I missed you while I was away. Hope to see you again tomorrow.

They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. —Revelation 22:4

I am living for the moment
When my Savior's face I see;
Oh, the thrill of that first meeting
When His glory shines on me. Christiansen

To see Jesus will be heaven's greatest joy.

Wanted to say good morning - I've just been reading the posts I missed yesterday, and have to say again, "I love this thread, Amy, and that you've revived it." Fishhawk, your poems are fabulous, and it is so nice to see them here. Hi, dark - great seeing your poems, as always!

Amy, we can't get enough of your aunt's offerings and the beautiful graphics you use to illustrate ALL those you present.

I really like that one Fish Hawk!

This is a friendship flower. Full of happiness and power.

Someone sent it to you because you're neat. So send this out it can't be beat.

It will show that you care for your friends. And that your friendship never ends.

So show your friends that you care. And that you will always be there.

For don't let this flower wilt away, You can save it for a rainy day.

And let it grow with all it's might. And let your friends know it will be alright.

Even though this flower is just for you. You can send it out to your friends too.

And let this flower grow for them. And let them know you cherish your friends.

Good afternoon, Mayor

I'm sure glad everyone wasn't late today!
The cup of coffee and the inspiration were perfect ways to welcome others to Poetry & Potpourri this morning.
