.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Morning Amy. Thanks for posting the chili recipe. A timely offering since the weather has turned so cold. I love chili in the winter. I think it is time to dust off the ol' chili pot. Now I won't be able to think of anything else until I fix some. :-)

Love In The Home

If I live in a house of spotless beauty
With everything in its place,
But have not love,
I am a housekeeper -- not a homemaker.

If I have time for waxing, polishing,
And decorative achievements,
But have not love,
My children learn cleanliness -- not Godliness.

Love leaves the dust in search of a child's laugh.
Love smiles at the tiny fingerprints
On a newly cleaned glass.

Love wipes away the tears before
It wipes up the spilled milk.
Love picks up the child before
It picks up the toys.

Love is present through the trials.
Love reprimands, reproves, and is responsive.

Love crawls with the baby, walks with the toddler,
Runs with the child, then stands beside
To guide the youths walk into adulthood.
Love is the key that opens
Salvation's message to a child's heart.

Before I became a mother
I took glory in my house of perfection.
Now I glory in God's perfection of my child.

A friend is someone we turn to when our spirits need a lift, A friend is someone we treasure for our friendship is a gift. A friend is someone who fills our lives with beauty, joy, and grace And makes the whole world we live in a better and happier place. - Jean Kyler McManus -

So true.

Good Morning, Lori ..... since I found the chili recipe on-line last night, I"ve been hungry for homemade chili. I'll have to try it but will probably add some pork sausage.

The Mommy Test:

I was out walking with my then 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I asked her not to do that.
"Why?" , she asked.
"Because it's been laying outside and is dirty and probably has germs."
At this point, she looked at me with total admiration and asked, "Wow! How do you know all this stuff?"
"Uh," I was thinking quickly, " . . . everyone knows this stuff. Um, it's on the Mommy test . You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mommy."
"Oh" , she said. We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information.
"I get it!" she beamed. "Then if you flunk, you have to be the Daddy."

Thank you both for your kind words. Little notes like that is what keeps the poems coming to the surface. Aloha from Maui. F.H.

Night will fall on me
Shadows etched on my face
Care lines left
I'll fade into the night
Someday I'll begin agin
And learn to love again
Into the light I'll stray
And be again
But night falls on me
My heart grown cold
Foresee the day
Blood fire awakened again
And love is all I'll have
