The Trump-like populist who would save the UK
The Boston Globe ^ | July 17, 2026 | Michael Levin

It’s been a tough go lately for the controversial British politician Nigel Farage. His party’s been dropping in the polls, and he’s under investigation for failing to report a gift from a billionaire of £5 million ($6.7 million).

Last week, he resigned his seat in Parliament so that he could stand for reelection — aiming to win a vote of confidence from electors in a region that has long supported him. But the major parties are refusing to field candidates against him, turning his political gambit into a bit of a farce. A perennial candidate who likes to dress up as a garbage can may be his only election opponent.

Writing off Farage, though, would be foolish.

The British lawmaker-cum-escape artist, author of Brexit, and thorn in the side of Labour and the Tories, will soon put this dog’s breakfast behind him and rise phoenix-like to be the British prime minister in waiting. And for the good.

Despite the way much of the British media demonizes him, Farage, the leader of the right-wing populist party Reform UK, is the last best chance of survival for the United Kingdom.

The UK today does not present a pretty picture. An economy in decline. Six prime ministers in a decade, soon to be seven when Labour’s Andy Burnham, the former Manchester mayor recently elected to Parliament, takes the place of the flailing Keir Starmer.

...Farage, the leader of the right-wing populist party Reform UK, is the last best chance of survival for the United Kingdom...

That very well may be true.

Sorry... Nigel is a turd. He looks like a turd, he acts like a turd and he generally is a turd. It’s easy enough to be conservative in the UK... Because the country is full of socialist. Even Nigel is a socialist in conservative clothing.

The last actual ‘conservative’ prime minister was Margaret Thatcher... They haven’t had a truly conservative Prime Minister since her, and there are no truly conservative Prime Ministers in the offing. The conservative party is left of center, the labour party is ultra left of center and the rest of the parties (like Nigel’s) are syphoning votes from the only parties that stand a chance of forming any future government. The conservatives, or labour.

Take your pick... Because they are almost one in the same.

Nigel talks a good game but he doesn’t have the grit to do what it would take to save Britain. I’m not sure anyone does at this point.

Elon should establish residency there. There’s always Katie Hopkins. Like Trump she gets them laughing.

Nigel is too much of a gentleman to fight.

That’s why he disparages Tommy Robinson.

Good luck to him. The Tories and Labor are increasingly just criminally lame so Farage is the last best hope for the UK

Follow Rupert Lowe on X, he is the hope, it certainly is not Nigel, who I once thought might be the hope. A recent post from Rupert.

Restore Britain is going to start talking a lot more about deporting foreign nationals who live in Britain yet are entirely unable to speak English.

I am sick of it.

Deporting illegals is now mainstream.

Let’s do the same for foreigners who can’t even speak our language.

“ Take your pick... Because they are almost one and the same.”
Opinions vary but Farage is not the same as Starmer. True, he’s not a match for the second best PM the UK ever had but he’s way better than Starmer. Pickings are slim in Europe these days.

I don’t see how a Israel first candidate would help England, England needs an England first candidate.

...Because dictating what people can wear is freedom?...

It is when the people wearing it hate your country and consider it their duty under Allah to reduce it to yet another Islamic s*hole.
