Judge Orders Subsidies to PBS & NPR Resumed [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 5 April 2026 | John Semmens

Posted on 04/07/2026 11:24:27 AM PDT by John Semmens

US District Judge Randolph Moss overturned the federal government's decision to discontinue the subsidies to the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR) calling it "a violation of the First Amendment's guarantee of freedom of speech. Neither the President nor Congress has the right to cancel the payment of federal money to these broadcasters merely because they don't like what they are broadcasting or they have better uses for the funds."

White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson called Judge Moss' decision "a ridiculous ruling by an activist judge attempting to undermine the law. NPR and PBS have no right to receive taxpayer funds, and Congress already voted to defund them. The Trump Administration looks forward to ultimate victory on the issue."

"Ordinarily, Congress and the president would have the authority to appropriate public funds for whatever purpose they wish as long as certain rules are followed," Moss said. "For decades both Congress and the president have deemed it proper to fund both these broadcasters. Unbeknownst to them, since taxpayers never objected to this long-term series of annual appropriations the legal doctrine of 'adverse possession' or 'squatters rights' was triggered. This means that the recipients of the long-term federal subsidies have accrued the right to receive the subsidies in perpetuity. It is too late for the Trump Administration or Congress to now decide that the appropriations can be discontinued."

Which part of the 1st Amendment says that the government is responsible for funding anyone's "free speech"? I mean, where's MY check?

I can’t believe that a sitting Judge can be so stupid. Just read what he said about the president and congress not having the authority to rescind the payments. What an Idiot!

Outrageous, of course. Makes the judges even lower in my estimation.

One point. Just to make the hypocritical lip service stand that these places have “freedom of speech” or “freedom of the press” does not mean WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM WITH TAX DOLLARS.

Trump needs to tell the dumb SOB to pay them himself. The Dishonorable, unelected Dipsh** has no authority to spend my taxpayer dollars. He has not authority to set funding. Get a real job moron. Cleaning the illegal aliens’ motel rooms would be a good job for you. Have an ICE day, Slick.

The origin of NPR and PBS was in the era when a small cabal owned nearly all the stations. LBJ and his wife owned dozens in Texas.
But they claimed “progressive” or “liberal” views were kept from the downtrodden masses and their ignorance reduced the educated voters who were the origin of having compulsory education in nearly every state. So the ignorant populace were supposed to have one place to get unbiased news coverage: NPR and PBS.

Soros and sons bought 227 radio stations for over $400 million when he secured Audacy. Monopoly isn’t gone in radio and TV.

99% of national news and local news is on leftist owned stations. No need for tax money to go to NPR and PBS for the liberal view to somehow be heard.

He also ordered us to give the mullah his leg back, the two white guy astronauts going around the moon to remain quiet and not be in any pictures, and Israel to open its borders to all arabs who might want to kill them.

Believe it. Leftist judges are just corrupt to the bone and rule based on their politics, not the Constitution or the law. This idiot is a perfect example. You can thank that weak ass John Roberts for letting these corrupt judges remain on the bench.,

Judge Moss ruled that funding be restored to PBS & NPR because they can’t freely speak without taxpayer subsidies.

This is a real stretch in my mind. I don’t see where public funds must be provided for anyone’s speech.

PBS had 87 directors; of these 87 were Democrats. It is of course, a nonpartisan, unbiased dispenser of the nation’s truth news to rural communities that are for some reason not served by newspapers, television, or the internet. It is also marked by otherwise unemployable leftists paid astronomical salaries out of taxpayer dollars who couldn’t narrate an old timey train ride in West Virginia.
