Democrat North Carolina Governor Josh Stein broke his deafening silence on the senseless and unprovoked murder of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska by 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr. on the Charlotte light rail.
After posting his statement on X and using the moment to push his political agenda, suggesting that his budget proposal will fix the issue and calling on the legislature to pass it, Stein got hit with a brutal Community Note on X, calling him out for avoiding the real issue.
He attempted to claim that incidents like this are “why my budget calls for more funding to hire more well-trained police officers.” But social media users were quick to point out that the issue wasn’t policing. It was policies that allowed violent repeat offenders back onto the streets, as was done countless times with Decarlos Brown.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Brown murdered Zarutska last month by stabbing her multiple times on the Charlotte, North Carolina, light rail as bystanders did nothing.
The lunatic had a long criminal rap sheet, with arrests dating back to 2007. He was later arrested at least six more times on charges, including felony larceny, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and communicating threats, according to the Daily Mail. Most of the charges were dropped.
Other reports and social media posts suggest he may have been arrested and released at least 12 times.
A real solution to this crisis of releasing criminals back to the streets to victimize innocent civilians is being proposed in Congress with a bill, introduced by GOP Rep. Jeff Fine (FL), to hold radical judges accountable for releasing criminals back onto the streets to commit heinous crimes.

I am heartbroken for the family of Iryna Zarutska, who lost their loved one to this senseless act of violence, and I am appalled by the footage of her murder. We need more cops on the beat to keep people safe. That’s why my budget calls for more funding to hire more well-trained police officers. I call upon the legislature to pass my law enforcement recruitment and retention package to address vacancies in our state and local agencies so they can stop these horrific crimes and hold violent criminals accountable.
Surveillance video from the incident shows Brown, unprovoked, stabbing Zarutska from the seat behind her on the light rail, then wandering around the rail car with what appears to be blood on the floor.
It was over before anyone even knew it happened.

By the way, I spot checked MSNBC and CNN during the mug shots story and saw their continuing Epstein story.

. She is not making excuses for her son. She says "what he did was atrocious, it was horrible and it was wrong." The point of her speaking isn't to make her son out to be a victim. He's not. She says she wanted to speak about the arrest to highlight how the system failed and things got to this point.
With Brown not yet appearing before a judge and police largely quiet about the details of what happened, Brown's mom provides more context on how things escalated to this point where Iryna Zarutska was randomly stabbed to death on the light rail.
As I previously reported, Brown served more than 5 years on an armed robbery charge.
When Brown was released from prison, Brown's mom says "he started saying weird things."
She says she got Brown evaluated but his behavior became aggressive so she got an involuntary commitment order from the courts. He was placed under psychiatric monitoring for two weeks and diagnosed with schizophrenia. But after he was released she says Brown became so aggressive she had to kick him out. He became homeless.
In January, Brown was arrested for misusing the 911 system. Police say he called from the hospital and claimed someone gave him "man made material" that controlled when he "ate, walked and talked." Despite his criminal past and homelessness, Magistrate Teresa Stokes allowed him to be released from jail on a written promise to appear. In court last month on this charge, his public defender questioned Brown's mental capacity. Judge Roy Wiggins ordered a forensic evaluation.
Brown's mom says the court should have never let her son be out in the community knowing he had mental health issues and previous arrests.
CMPD's community policing team was well acquainted with Brown. They encountered him three times in 2024 and referred him to resources each time. CMPD has still not answered my questions asking what these resources are, if he accepted any of them, if police have any recourse if they keep encountering someone who refuses help and why Brown wasn't arrested if he was accused of criminal activity.
Systemic failure, willful neglect, or downright incompetence. Some people need to hang.

Releasing criminals into “court ordered” treatment centers sure could be lucrative.
I bet Teresa Stokes in Charlotte isn’t the only one…

The bystanders who did nothing were powerless to stop a stabbing that took place without provocation in a matter of seconds. Had they tried to do something, they may have gotten “Daniel Pennyed” and had their lives turned upside down.
