Chuckle… definitely NOT a “ Land Yacht”…
It’s a big, beautiful, badass AMERICAN Detroit Steel machine from a muc better time.
I had a 68 Impala SS, the Caprice’s Ballsy cousin.
My 75 Pontiac Bonneville WAS a Land Yacht… and the 400 cu in power plant moved her down the road very nicely.
And both were affordable for an average working American with a factory job at a family to feed.
They were easy to work on in the driveway, and most American men knew how to fix their own cars back then.
I’d put either of those machines up against anything on the road today for comfort and power, and ease of maintenance.

I had a 2 door Caprice with a 396. The cars name was “Low 1, Wa Wa Boogie”.
As a teenager I really got great use out of the back seat, especially with the Catholic girls:)

My dad had a 1973 Delta 88, and THAT was not a "Land Yacht", it was a "Land Dreadnaught"!!!!
I loved driving that huge car! When you drove on the highway, the car would gently float up and down.

I drove a ‘72 Impala with that engine. You didn’t steer it . . . you aimed it. Great car. The ‘73 Buick Regal and the 1979 Old 98 were nice too. For newer cars, the ‘94 Caprice or Roadmaster were fine.

In the mid 1980s I bought a 1973 Chevy Impala off my uncle for 300 bucks. What a great car! Built like a frigging tank! I think that had a 350 engine in it too. The poor man's Cadillac.

What was that 1959 car with what looked like 2 155 rounds or Jayne Mansfield breasts sticking out from the rear bumper?
A Buick, or Oldsmobile?

My dad had a 70 Buick wildcat convertible with the 455.
He then got a 73 Buick Riviera 455 in gold.
can you say 6 miles to the gallon.
But fun to drive, he lent it to me for graduation prom night.

Olds Rocket 425… great engine.
I had 26 cars in my lifetime; used to buy them used for a couple hundred bucks, Drive them until the wheels fall off, repair them, and then buy another one, lather, rinse and repeat
Better days for sure

The Chevy 350 block was an amazing motor.
You could squeeze a lot of horsepower out of it.
Infinite aftermarket parts, and combinations, to turn it into a beast.

The poor man's Cadillac.
That was when you could buy a Cadillac sized car with a powerful engine, without paying for a bunch of unneeded amenities. Those are the cars that hold up for 40 years.
Chevy Caprice/Impala
Chrysler Newport
Plymouth Fury
Dodge Polara
Mercury Marauder
Pontiac Catalina
Buick LeSabre
Ford Galaxie

I have to ping the Free Republic member who absolutely catches what this was like, in his signature—
Zhang Fei: (My dad had a Delta 88. That was a car. It was like driving your living room)
I chuckle every time I see that!
