Things are not always as they seem, and I am convinced that the drama that we witnessed at the White House on Friday is a perfect example. Right now, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is being endlessly ridiculed by the conservative media in the United States. One of the words that is being used to describe Zelenskyy is “stupid”, but the truth is that Zelenskyy is not stupid at all. I strongly disagree with Zelenskyy on a lot of things, but I also recognize that he is an incredibly cunning individual. He has used the war with Russia to become one of the most famous celebrities on the entire planet. Much of the global population is absolutely in love with him, and no matter what Zelenskyy does they just keep showering him and his nation with more cash.

But Donald Trump recognizes exactly what Zelenskyy is, and that presents a huge problem for Zelenskyy.

The U.S. has given more cash and military equipment to Ukraine than anyone else by a wide margin.

In fact, the U.S. was feverishly arming Ukraine even before the war began.

A lot of people do not realize this.

Zelensky is an idiot. He picked a fight with the most powerful leader in the world, aligning himself with out-of-power Democrats and an out-of-touch and dying EU.

Zelensky just ensured Trump will further reduce support to Ukraine and further weaken NATO.

In reality:

1. Beginning around 1991 the US sent aid to both Ukraine and Russia, circa $1 billion per year in today's values to Ukraine ($225 million then), nearly three times that amount to Russia.

2. Aid to Russia ended in the early 2000s, after Vladimir Putin came to power, but continued to Ukraine at the same $ levels until 2014.

3. After Russia's 2014 invasions of Ukraine, US aid doubled to circa $450 million per year where it remained until Russia's invasions of 2022, when it increased to over $100 billion per year.

4. There was always some military assistance in US aid to Ukraine, but after Putin's 2014 invasions, Pres. Obama sent Ukraine only blankets and MREs.
   Pres. Trump sent Javelins and Stingers, which did prove instrumental in Ukraine's early 2022 victories over Russian invasion forces.

So, "feverishly", naw... never.
But steadily for over 34 years, increasing after each new Russian invasion.

Yep, that certainly was the thinking before Trump and for that Russia knew that they could not agree to a cease fire. But now, of course, joining NATO would be difficult as Trump would have to be in on it...so Russia could agree to a cease fire, but then why do something that helps the other side regroup?

I read the book in 1990 and knew that Trump HAD to be President some day. Exactly for this reason; he doesn’t FA, and he does walk away.

I think the better question is: Did President Trump and VP Vance play Zelensky like a fiddle? They know what a deplorable little dictator he was but they have now exposed that to the World (while simultaneously pushing him off on Europe). Job well done!
