By hiring weak leaders with failed track records and prioritizing equity over merit, Michelle Reid destroyed Fairfax County schools.
Last month, Ann Bonitatibus announced that she was resigning from her position as principal of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ), a magnet school located in Fairfax County, Virginia, the state’s largest school district.
Before her leadership, TJ was the top-ranked high school in the nation for about a decade. Bonitatibus aided in the overhaul of TJ’s selection process in 2020 from merit to equity, thereby compromising the once highly prestigious school’s rigor, and sinking its ranking from first to 14th in the nation on its undoubted freefall journey.
Prior to the admissions changes in 2020, which were explicitly implemented to reduce the number of Asian Americans and racially balance the student population, TJ leadership selected students across the region based on an admissions exam, grades, test scores, and aptitude for mathematics. Following the policy change, admissions are now based on middle school quotas, admissions essays that have little to nothing to do with STEM and can be subject to viewpoint discrimination, and a low-level cut-off grade point average of 3.5.
Consequently, this year, following the graduation of the final class of merit-selected students, the school notably had fewer than half the number of national merit semi-finalists that it had under the merit-based admissions system, and its lowest number in over a decade.

In fact, the timing of her resignation suggests that Bonitatibus likely resigned from her position in the middle of the school year as a result of these controversies with the CCP, which some have even considered to be traitorous. Bonitatibus and others destroyed America’s premiere public school, while helping China to replicate what it once was.

I can attest, that after 32 years in education, most woke policies and efforts don’t come from teachers.
They come from the administration. (which often get their orders from the state)
Mission accomplished it seems.
In Fairfax County the teachers there will gladly lead and point to “The Woke Way”?
There’s an easy fix for this.
Since the stated primary goal is numericaly racial balance in numbers — population, we simply do a census, disover which favored racial group to be used as the model quantity, and execute the “excess”population in the too-large groups.
Easy.
The entire county has been turned into one giant sh!tstorm. Employees are regularly subjected to sexual assaults, and the union and county collude to cover everything up. Some massive portion of the teachers are out on PTSD, and it’s REAL, believe me. The school hallways reak of pot; violent crimes against white people and suspected MAGA supporters are encouraged by other teacher.
Pretty soon, the district will utterly collapse. Teachers flee one school by the dozens, get jobs in other schools and find they’re just as bad. One program to replace them allows teachers to earn their credentials why they teach, but the teachers involved are usually grossly unqualified foreigners. Kids are dropping like flies from fentanyl overdoses.
Interesting. We were married in Fairfax and my recollection it was mostly a woodsy community with limited population. It was populated by a few government workers and mostly good native Virginians.
Today it’s an overcrowded leftist nightmare fully of commies.
Well maybe. Of course some areas are going to be more left or right.
But consider who hires the teachers and selects the types they want, that match their political beliefs?
Then who trains new teachers?
I retired just when the woke crow was getting started, I actually remember we had some staff meetings on the then new trans movement (2017-2018). Each building principal talked to their own teachers, and were all first instructed by the superintendent in their own meeting.
We were literally told we would have to accept them:
that’s we couldn’t mock them
that we had to let them go to the bathrooms they choose
that we had to refer to their chosen pronouns
That is was orders from higher and we had no choice
I picked a good time to retire.
“shit rolls down hill and picks up speed” is an appropriate saying for this.

If you look at Michelle Reid’s bio, she is described as a liberal administrator whose main concern seems to be “excellence through diversity”. How can you string those words together in a meaningful sentence? It looks like the Board got what they signed up for.
Fairfax County is Demonicrat. They have brought it on themselves. One of these days their children and grandchildren will spit on their graves.

And watch what happens next with FCPS if 3 million direct or indirect federal workers lose their jobs because the federal government has shifted gears into being efficient & waste, corruption, and incompetence swept away because the DOGE team has drained the swamp. We could see the home prices and tax revenues for FCPS collapse. Those folks have never seen anything like this.
It is axiomatic that when the lodestar for staffing, student admissions, classroom instruction, and the school overall becomes DEI rather than merit, the merit of the “product” will decline. The dream here was that hobbling the strong would build up the weak by osmosis. Leftists cannot figure out why this never works.
But the stuff about treason with the CCP seems overblown. Chinese intel could get all this info from public sources, or from students already working for them.
