Mitch McConnell is pulling his usual shenanigans and trying to install one of his puppets as the incoming senate majority leader. That got me to thinking...
The Constitution does not provide for a "Senate majority leader," but it DOES declare that the Vice President is "president of the Senate." If McConnell gets his puppet installed, could Vice President Vance simply walk into the Senate and say "I'm assuming my duty as president of the Senate," and just shut out the majority leader? Has there been any historical precedent for a V.P. doing something like this?
If obstructionist Republicans intend to stymie Trump's nominations and appointments, this would be a totally boss move. And Vance has the stones to pull it off.
I think the Senate makes its own rules and I don’t think the President of the Senate can just toss them aside.
Some people are floating the idea:

many VPs seem to lie low. I was thinking that it would be good for Vance to make a name for himself during the first four years so that he is an obvious choice as incumbent in 2028. This would sure do it.
Of MUCH more interest is the upcoming Majority Leader vote.
I anticipate an announced result, of a secret ballot, and then all the members will say they did not vote that way, to avoid Trump backlash.
It will be at that point that Rand Paul will stand up and say the count is suspect. I suppose the ballots will be submitted unnamed and then THEY, the ballots, will be challenged as suspect.
If there is a serious effort, this secret ballot can be uncovered. At that point, the anti Trump faction is destroyed.
No.
Stop. Trump will get who he wants. Victorious overwhelming. People looking to make controversy where none exists.
Run McConnell out of town on a rail.
Does Kentucky have recall? Lol. A Democratic governor in a sea of Red. Maybe he could run again. In Oklahoma. I hear the folks of Broken Arrow are huge fans.
who does he want?
This proposal is just plain stupid. What is the object of this ridiculous scenario. He’s going to be VP...period.
It’s going to he Thune. Trump is just going to have to deal with that somehow. He should be cordial but firm, knowing that he won a huge mandate, including the popular vote, and that projects power in Washington.
Yes they can as legal precedent has already been done...Don’t listen to these nay sayers.
could you offer evidence for the precedence?
No he cannot.
Scott. Susie Wiles ran Scott’s campaign for governor.
John Adams, George M. Dallas, Levi P. Morton, and Garret A. Hobart did this.
The VPOTUS was primarily a legislative position until the middle of the 20th century.

There is precedent, I believe, for the Senate to select the Vice President as their Senate Majority leader. They can vote whomever they want. But I do not think there is any precedent for the Vice President to just walk in and say “I’m taking over”. I don’t think that would work at all.
except that Scott is currently in last place and people want him to be elected so not sure how anyone can be certain at this point that DJT will get what he wants.
