Disorder has broken out in Dublin city centre, amid anger about the attack. One of the children and a woman are being treated for serious injuries, police said. A suspect has been detained.

Police have said a "complete hooligan lunatic faction driven by far-right ideology" is behind violent protests in Dublin after three young children were injured in a stabbing outside a primary school.

Protesters have let off flares and fireworks at police as one of the children, a five-year-old girl, and a woman in her 30s are being treated in hospital for serious injuries.

Officers with riot shields are holding back crowds in the city centre and where a police car and a double decker bus have been seen on fire amid anger following the "appalling attack" in Parnell Square East.

A fire has also broken out inside a damaged Luas tram as violence continues on O'Connell Street in Dublin city centre.

About the police.
The citizens had to face a dangerous knife slashing man who had seriously injured one woman and had also cut children. They held the man down and took the knife. Now they’re being chastised by the cops.

The attack reportedly happened as pupils emerged from the school. Bystanders disarmed a man and pinned him to the ground, with several kicking him, one witness, Siobhan Kearney, told RTÉ. “People were trying to attack the man. So me and an American lady formed a ring around him saying we’d wait on the garda.”

Another man safeguarded a knife for police to retrieve, Kearney said. “Two children and the woman were taken back into the school where they were coming from. It was absolutely bedlam.”
