The past month has led to agonizing reappraisals among some mainstream Jewish-American liberals over the traditional Jewish-American shibboleth that diversity must be good for the Jews.
Not surprisingly to anybody who has been paying cold-blooded attention to the past half century, the older, unfashionably homogeneous American population has turned out to be wildly positive toward the Jewish state in its moment of crisis, while the younger, diverse upcoming generation finds itself roughly evenly split over whether the real bad guys are Hamas or Israel.
In the wake of the October 7th atrocities, the Harvard/Harris Poll asked, “In general in this conflict do you side more with Israel or Hamas?” Among American voters aged 65 years or older, 95 percent sided with Israel over Hamas. But 48 percent of the much less white 18- to 24-year-old cohort backed Hamas.
An obvious reason for declining support for Israel among American voters is because the U.S. isn’t as white Christian as it used to be.
Some of us have been pointing out this mechanism by which increasing diversity makes American voters less enthusiastic toward Israel to our Jewish friends for many years. For example, in my 2015 column “Are Jews Losing Control of the Media?” I observed that the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement had made its greatest progress in the most demographically futuristic institutions: the University of California campuses, where whites had long been reduced to a minority as they eventually will be in the rest of the country.

Jews advance on merit. And are white.
Of course DIE programs are bad for the Jews.
VS
Civilized moderate people who engage in dialog and debate
ya ... that's a tough one
I'm no fan of the Jews or their society ... but they do try to make their case with words and logic.
When you use head lopping as a propaganda tool , it kind of undermines your point.
islam is evil
We are losing the generation that lived World history and that is the real loss.
Diversity People see Jews as white and thus evil. I really don’t see how liberal Jews didn’t think this was going to happen
That conclusion isn't exactly accurate.
The reason for the decline in support of Israel is the intense and generations-long (i.e., at least since the 1960s) Marxist indoctrination of Americans by colleges and universities.
A major tenet of this Marxist indoctrination is a hatred of the American government (it must be overthrown after all) and that means a hatred of Western civilization on which it rests. Western civilization itself rests on a foundation of Judeo/Christianity and the source of all Judeo/Christianity is, of course...Israel.
Yes ... the young can't learn from the mistakes of the past if they are never told the real history.
Our modern education system needs to be dismantled completely or we are doomed.
I really don’t see how liberal Jews didn’t think this was going to happen
The House should declare a National Jewish month and pass it to the Senate - see what happens …
Funny, I remember when TakiMag was on the "Not welcome on FR" list. I wonder if VDare.com still is? It features Sailer and other great writers as well.
I think you’re both saying the same thing
I’m saying that it is not a problem caused by diversity. It is a problem that stems from Marxist indoctrination.
Oddly enough there have been many leftist Jews pushing it.
Including Marx himself. Like Michael Savage says there are 2 groups of Jews…very conservative and very, very leftist.
Makes you feel like you joined the wrong fraternity when you discover its motto is "Death to the Jews"...you're a Jew.
Would be nice if they changed their tune
I'll award some points to both propositions. The proposition that America isn't as pro-Israel as it used to be because it isn't as white and Christian, is obviously true.
Immigration results in more and more Americans (at least Americans on paper) who are hostile to Israel and the Jews for their own cultural or religious reasons, and also a fair number who are neutral or unconcerned about Israel and the Jews.
Your average Chinese immigrant, who is agnostic or follows Chinese folk religion, as most do, is probably not antisemitic, but neither do they see Jews as having a special role or a metaphyscial claim to Israel, unlike many Christians.
The average Somali, Palestinian or Syrian immigrant probably hates they Jews, because that's what they were brought up to do.
The reason for the decline in support of Israel is the intense and generations-long (i.e., at least since the 1960s) Marxist indoctrination of Americans by colleges and universities.
But even there the immigration plays a huge part. Much was made of the Harvard letter placing all blame for the events of Oct. 7 on Israel. What wasn't much noted were who wrote and signed the letter. It wasn't the Hasty Pudding Club, the Harvard Lampoon, and the Harvard Anglican Congregation societies siding with Hamas. Here's the list:
So, which came first, the radical identity politics of Harvard infecting the students, or the foreign, immigrant and non-White students infecting Harvard with radical identity politics?
That's a rhetorical question, it's a bit of both, for sure.
PS: It's amazing how thoroughly the Web has been scrubbed of both the original Harvard letter and especially the list of Student organizations that signed it.
Harvard was infected with Marxism by commies living here. American citizens.

Yes, I remember that too. Now the question is: have Sailer and the other writers from VDare and Take Mag moderated their views and become more mainstream over the years, or has Free Republic moved further to the Right, where what used to be unacceptable is now part of the discussion?
I believe Sailer and VDare were both heavy immigration critics, and also use the term "race realists" to describe their views on race. Those views were very much "verboten" on Free Republic back in the day.
I don’t think Sailer, Taki, or VDare have moderated their views. I believe the explosion of videos on social media of black crime and unfettered illegal immigration have opened their viewpoints up to honest discussion where before it was verboten, even here on FR.
Thoughtful response. Thanks! I especially appreciate the data points that back up your claim.
