‘Sound of Freedom’ Crosses $100 Million Domestically
world of reel ^

Posted on 07/20/2023 5:32:38 PM PDT by MNDude

How exactly did this happen? “Sound of Freedom” crossing the $100 million mark at the domestic box-office is some kind of achievement. It’s the highest earning independently-financed film of the year, by a long shot.

It’s made more money than Oscar contenders “Tar,” “The Fabelmans,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Women Talking” “Til,” and “Triangle of Sadness” combined.

“Sound of Freedom” is set to make another $22-25 million this weekend. A domestic total of $200 million isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibilities, especially with the legs that it’s showing. When all is said and done, will it manage to outgross “The Flash” and “Elemental”?

Obviously, there’s a clearcut audience for conservative filmmaking, even though I wouldn’t even qualify “Sound of Freedom” a “conservative movie.” It’s a well-made, but conventional movie, with strong moments and some unfortunate sentimentality. However, audiences love it — an A+ CinemaScore is something to brag about.

What it has done is strike a chord with conservatives and, in case you weren’t aware by the blockbuster numbers of 2004’s “Passion of the Christ,” and others, there is most definitely a large demographic composed of red-state Americans hungry for this type of “marketed” movie.

Will Hollywood take advantage of this Trump-voting audience? The people who boycott Target, Bud Light and NPR are the same ones buying a ticket to “Sound of Freedom.” It’s a simple as that.

It’s also crossed political lines. I’ve spoken to more than a few self-proclaimed liberals who went to see this movie and, know what? They all loved it.

There are also plenty who will refuse to watch it because its star, Jim Caviezel, is supposed to be some kind of QAnon shaman, or something like that, but what the hell do I know about that topic.

I urge ALL OF YOU to see this movie.

If you’ve already seen it, buy more “pay it forward” tickets.

If you’ve already bought those, “Thank you!”

“today’s “left” is anything but liberal.”

Really best description of today’s left is following whatever the person on TV tells them to follow.

Against Trump’s vaccine? OK.
For vaccine mandates? OK.
Anti war? OK
Pro Ukaine war? Ok
BLM, LGBT? OK

really, that’s what it is. Just many people enthusiastically following orders from their TV.

If it wins an Oscar, it is not going to be worth watching.

Typically. The only award winning movies I know I liked, and I think they won, are Gladiator, Braveheart, The Joker, Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, A Beautiful Mind, and probably some more I can’t think of.
But most are some artistic third world gay period piece…

“Critically acclaimed” is code for “hey, elitists, you’ll look smart if you talk about this movie”.

Succinct and apt.

For some reason it made me think of the dinner scene in American Psycho where they’re trying to sound worldly.

In the old days liberals, conservatives and libertarians could agree to disagree.

The (il)liberals destroyed that.

The efforts of this movie to expose trafficking of minors should be something we can all agree on. But noooo.

A Christian starred in it! Insurrectionist! Bigot!

Movies rated 8/10 today would’ve been 7/10 10-15 years ago.

I agree. The only recent movie on my list is The Joker.
It was excellent but terribly depressing.
I typically watch my 80’s & 90’s movies.

I LOVE that idea of buying more than one ticket! You ROCK, Blackdog! :)

I’m too far out in the sticks to go to the movies, but when this is released on DVD I will follow your lead and buy multiple copies.

Thanks for the inspiration! :)
