On this side of the pond, The Federal Reserve has begun their experiment with big banks using digital currency. This is a step towards going to a cashless economy.
Why is this terrifying? Blockchain technology is a fantastic innovation for processing payments given its ledger capabiliities. But that means that The Federal Reserve might be able to look at your complete history of expenditures. Or worse, perhaps even shut down your ability to make payments, This may lead to a China-style “social credit score” where the Fed and the Federal government punish people for driving “too much” increasing your carbon footprint or eating non-Federal government approved foods and lowering your social credit score.
Will there be safeguards? Allegedly, but remember the FBI hid Hunter Biden’s laptop prior to the Presidential election of late 2020. And HOW did our nation’s regulators completely drop the ball on Sam Bankman-Fried (or Spam Bankfraud)?
Thus, it is an Experiment in Personal Liberty Terror.

When interest rates go back down next year and beyond, that raise doesn’t go away. Which means that raise will be much higher in real dollars. This has nothing to do with Biden, it has to do with the cost of money. Seniors just made out better than they know.

A cashless society is the end of liberty. When all of your money is in a computer the government controls, you can be rendered penniless with a couple of clicks of a computer mouse by a faceless tyrant.
No food. No shelter. No transportation. No fuel. No utilities... because you have suddenly been deemed an “enemy of the state.”
You won’t even know who actually threw the switch to destroy your life. There will be nobody you can identify to blame or to remedy the tyranny.
You will not be able to make a 911 call to have a first responder rescue you.
A cashless society is worse than putting a bullet into your head. A bullet to the head is faster than slow starvation and progressive isolation.

Real freedom comes from truly anonymous money. If the government doesn’t know how much you make, doesn’t know where your money comes from, doesn’t know where you spend it, and doesn’t know how much you spend — then you have real financial freedom. A national retail sales tax could fund the government because people spend money. The government doesn’t need to know the details — they can just skim 10% (or whatever) off retail sales. Government would have no power over consumers.
But the digital direction we are going in, is the opposite of all of this.

Well, no. Unless there is serious deflation, things will cost more, and the official inflation rate is lower than the actual inflation rate. Since many seniors own their own homes, they (we) are buffered against housing costs, but other living costs impact them one-for-one. I also have a fixed income pension which does not track inflation. I also have hundreds of thousands in savings and more in a 401k. Inflation has cost me tens of thousands in purchasing power of savings (which I intend to live on for rest of my life) and hundreds of thousands in the value of my investments and even more in purchasing power of what's left.
Trump was great for seniors and working people. Biden has been an unmitigated disaster.
